When they effectively made gun ownership a heinous crime in Oz it was put about that in "criminalising the possesion of guns for the general populous then only criminals would own them". Take that how you like!

"This is my rifle, this is my gun....." It goes on from there but I forget the rest.
Pete,

I remember the rest! :D I chanted it while being forced to march around the grinder during boot camp! A recruit was made to chant it while being punished by marching for calling his rifle a "gun". You could call it a rifle or a weapon or a piece but not a "gun" for some reason I never understood. :D
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

hhf,
This is the part of your post my last post was in response to, and what SJ was referring to - it is illegal for the vast majority of foreigners to own or carry a gun. The fact that this law is not enforced in its strictest sense is neither here nor there when you want to know what the law is, and now you do. Thai law says a lot of things are illegal but they still go on, almost with the blessing of the police sometimes; that is something that anyone who visits or lives in Thailand has to understand and live with - it is against the law to do 'x' but you can still do it under certain circumstances, normally involving money. I would much rather they strictly enforced this particular law but that's life.

I haven't Googled it HH but gut feeling is that 'gun' was the WWII era slang that stuck with many DI's.

Wang came into existence in the 50's (do you remember 'does your wang hang low when you drag it in the snow, do you get that funny feeling when you bounce it off the ceiling...).

Dick came into being in the 60's.

70's may have been Prick.

Johnson in the 80's sometime I think. No idea the 90's or now.

The term 'firing blanks' has been around a long time as well when we were blamed for a non-fertility issues.

There are probably similar terms going back to the Romans. Folks may lern more here than in NC's. Pete

I think in the military, certainly ours anyway, technically a gun was a larger calibre weapon such as a naval gun or an artillery piece that was used for direct fire as opposed to indirect fire weapons such as a howitzer or mortar.

Pete, I don't remember that wang one, but I remember this one:

Do your balls hang low,
Can you swing 'em to and fro,
Can you tie 'em in a knot,
Can you tie 'em in a bow,
Can you throw 'em o'er your shoulder
Like a continental soldeir,
Do your balls hang low! :D

Sorry guys, I think Pete and I hijacked this thread reminiscing about old U.S. military stuff.

:offtopic:

Yeah, WL and SJ, I get your point about doing things legally. We don't want to become too much like our hosts! :D

I think you're probably correct Steve, seems like some old brain cells somewhere in the unused for a while area remember that as a plausible explanation!

Mia mee bahn haa. Rehashed old threads should be hijacked if the argument is always the same.

On the whole, we don't do badly for a resort community holiday forum.

I think we hold our own concerning serious subjects, and people to comment on them intelligently.

However, when things get too depressed and humdrum, you can always count on me to slip sand or grease into the gears.

I've been working on a "God is a conspiracy" thread but I may not be finished by Christmas.

What we really need is some new and unique content. Spread the word. :D Pete

Talking about stereotypes:

http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownew ... 0000010612

Is that a silencer on the gun? If so, very thoughtful, not to wake up the neighbours when shooting a burglar.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
