New Computer Shop
New Computer Shop
Mod.. Not sure what "advertising" I can give...
However, after several years in HH and doing the rounds at various computer shops, some bad, some not so bad, none that I would write home about.... yesterday I came across a new shop owned by two Danish guys (brothers, I think). Service appeared extraordinary and great range of products, including Dell. Have not been able yet to test their after sales service. Perhaps others on the forum have.
Shop is Invade IT at 60/22 Petkasem Road, between Soi 4 and 6.

No problem since you don't own the business!
Will pay them a visit tomorrow - just blown another power supply and couldn't get a replacement in Hua Hin before at a sensible price so we'll see how good they really are.

Try to change "location" for the computer in the windows set-up. I have a Swedish HP Pavilion while my wife and daughter have Thai HP Pavilions and I simply changed the location in their computers.norm wrote:My wife bought a Thai Toshiba laptop and it keeps switching over to thai language which is a pain in the butt. I brought mine from Oz and never have any problems with it.
Hardware is the same in all laptops, some companies just put it in a shiny case emblazoned with their logo and add 40% to the price. Price should be your deciding factor for laptop purchase here or the UK, you can get a good guideline to prices in Thailand here:lippy45 wrote: I know some of the cheaper ones out in LOS do not have original hardware / software etc and therefore upgrades may be a problem in the future.
Just wandered if a laptop from the UK would be better???

Acer have always been pretty good value for money. Yes, software you do have to look out for if you want the genuine article however most laptops of reputable brand will come with genuine Windows pre-installed.
stgrhe's suggestion on changing locale settings will solve the language problem.

Looks like I don't need to pay them a visit afterall - PSU was ok (not that they had many to choose from on their site) and it was the UPS that had cooked! The machine lives!
I do need some better cooling though so will drop by one day next week to see what they have in stock and report back. The site just seems like a million other online computer hardware websites, nothing exceptional there as most items are ordered down from Bangkok anyway.

Buksi, have you compared any prices on that web site to local store prices? There's a netbook I'm thinking about on that site for 14k. I was wondering if I could expect to find it locally for that same price, or would I have to go to one of the IT malls in Bangkok?Hardware is the same in all laptops, some companies just put it in a shiny case emblazoned with their logo and add 40% to the price. My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Yes, the Hua Hin place (invadeit.com) seems to be about 10-20% more expensive across the board, I also use thanni.com for hardware price comparison.hhfarang wrote: Buksi, have you compared any prices on that web site to local store prices?
However I would imagine that this is what you'd save on a trip to Bangkok anyway and at least you have a local shop to rant at if you get a hardware failure - they're farang managed so they may actually understand and honour a warranty unlike any of the Thai places!

Check if they have fans at a reasonable price. There are many rip offs about. Should not be more than 100 BHT each and I always fit as many as the case can handle.buksida wrote: I do need some better cooling though so will drop by one day next week to see what they have in stock and report back.......................
A new gizmo I found at my local store for 150 BHT was a HDD cooler. It sits above or beneath a hard disk and gets supply from it's host.
Maybe the new store has them.

You may be able to save a couple of hundreds going to Zeer Rangsit, but it will take you 4 hours in a car if something is wrong with the stuff - and most likely you will not get it fixed on the guaranty anyway. However, if you ar lucky enough that will actually fix it, you just got yourself another 4 hours of driving to pick the stuff up

I am not trying to discourage anybody, I am just talking from a couple of experiences which I could have lived without.
Anyway if you are learning thai - it is a very good way to practice since nobody understands english if your PC is broken (at least nobody in the shop you bought it from).
