Songthaews

Post by lomuamart »

Went with my golf clubs on songthaews to Khao Takiab yesterday. From our place, north of town, to the night market intersection it was 10THB. From there to the end of the line at Khao Takiab, I was charged 20THB - an extra 10THB for my clubs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. However, I've never seen a Thai person charged an extra 10THB for having half of the day market in shopping with them.
I'm just curious, that's all. I'm perfectly happy to pay the extra 10THB. Is this normal?

Not heard of extra charges - I've often travelled with big rucksack, about the same size of golf clubs. Although I always have a 10 baht coin ready and just pass it through the window, maybe they would have liked to charge an extra 10 baht but didnt get the chance !

The green songthaews go between Takiab - HH night market intersection every day between 7ish am and 7 (or 6.30) pm. 10 bath payable to the driver for any part of the stretch. I think they leave about every 12-15 min.

Must have been the golf clubs that gave away a clue to my affluence :thumb:
As said before, it dosn't bother me either way as I use the the songthaews pretty regularly and they are great value and a lot safer than getting on a motorbike taxi.
They run from around HH airport to Khao Takiab. On the way south, it's a 10THB ride to the night market. Then it's a quick change of taxi and another 10 THB to Khao Takiab.
On the way north, there's no need to change but it's 10THB when you get to the night market and another 10 from there.
The songthaews run about every 10 minutes from 6am until 6pm.
A great way to travel through town.

Lomu, perhaps they are using the same guise as the low cost air carriers, 10baht for the normal ride and extra for sporting gear. The only thing that I can think of is that if the bus gets full and you have your clubs standing up, that they may class it as taking up seat space.

I am told that the mini bus does it from BKK to Hua Hin if you have to much luggage. They make you pay for another seat so as you can have your luggage on a seat next to you, so other peoples smaller luggage can still be stored behind the seat at the back.

Magnum, I think they normally just run to the Police station in Takiab at the "y" intersection. I live just south of the flyover and haven't seen any regular runs down this way on Phetkasem. I think they would take you from the end of the line in Takiab for a few extra baht but you'd have to work out the price in advance.

There are regular busses (the smaller, non air conned kind) that run between Hua Hin and Pranburi but I don't know the schedule. All those little Sala's along the highway are where they normally stop.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Regular (about half hourly ) from HH to Pranburi. (day time)

Various vehicle types but all coloured orange (red).

Just stand on the side of the road and hail driver. You probably wont have to.

A great service and from where we are at Khao Tao 20 Baht to either HH or Pran.
