Far East Economic Review

Post by PeteC »

A sad day. :( I don't know if it will continue as an on-line publication. Pete
____________

".....Last month Dow Jones and Co. announced that it would close FEER, which from 1946 chronicled Asia's post-war recovery, in December.

The publication's heyday was in the 1980s when it was known for the depth and quality of its reporting and for standing up to authoritarian governments and big business.

"Unfortunately, despite several attempts at invigorating the brand, the Review's continued losses in advertising revenue and readers are now unsustainable," said Dow Jones and Co., part of the News Corp. media empire controlled by tycoon Rupert Murdoch."

I did't know the publication, but as soon as Murdoch is mentioned - there you go.

It is/was the only publication Lomu that any layman with no experience in this part of the world could pick and gain immediate understanding of events, trends, politics, economics, customs etc.

I never fond it biased, just straight forward, aggressive reporting. It was a godsend for me when I started working here heavily in the 80's. Sorry to see it go. Pete
