Legality of E~Bay purchases

Whilst surfing the net today Mrs.A. saw a 6 bedroom house for sale in Hua Hin on e~bay for 400 usd. The blurb said there were 22 days and some hours before the sale concluded, thinking this was to be the opening gambit in an on line auction she accepted, surprise surprise E~Bay replied," congratulations you have bought this house for 400 usd," then proceeded to give instructions to pay by Paypal. It clearly said , house for sale, but on asking the vendor in Canada to confirm he replied that the house was for rent not for sale, and which month did we want. Now, we are not naive enough to believe that have the right to enforce this agreement but does anyone know the legality of e~bay sales taking into account three different countries are involved.

I don't think the ammount of countries is the issue here. I think its a clear case of a fraudulant ad. If the seller flags it up the account it will be investigated. Also they could leave highly negative feedback which will be visable to all in the future.

Remember your status and feedback are everything on ebay. There are many sellers that won't accept a bid without the bidder having at least 99% positive feedback. I have seen it many times.

You should always check the sellers status (amount of sales and feedback) before buying anything on ebay.

Bids on eBay are legally binding, it is part of the T&C of using eBay. But if you can show that there was misrepresentation by the seller, then the bid is not binding.

You obviously did the same thing I did, and searched for Hua Hin on e-bay after reading this thread! No 6 bedroom houses there though, so we have to assume the ad has been either withdrawn or banned.

Randy are you still able to leave negative comment?? Thought they had closed that one because of legal concerns. The only adverse comment choice left is the neutral one I thought.
I heard that 1 month ago a rather swish hotel in Italy inadvertently advertised digs for a pittance and removed the add pronto from the fast and furious responses it received after realising the error. However they apparently honored ALL of the reservations that were made. How's that for integrity!

Did you actually pay the $400.00USD. If you did and paid via paypal and it is a fraudulent transaction, you can take the matter up with them and apply for a refund.
If you have the web link to the sale info, pm it to me and will look over it for you. I have had a lot of experience buying and selling on there and may be able to assist you in some way.

Thanks for the offer Chelsea, but no we didn`t part with any money, as Lung Per said if something seems too good to be true it probably is. We already have a house on this development and can see the property in question from our back garden, we thought this might be the opening bid in an on line auction, so, no harm done to us, thankfully.

Dodgy way to buy a house I reckon,but come to think of it a guy in Perth Western Oz split up with his missus a year or so back and put the house on e-bay, all his belongings and his job!!Don't know what he got but wanted a million I think!
