Where your money goes

Post by PeteC »

As we know, an excise tax is charged to the producer/seller and is in turn passed on to the consumer. VAT is additional. I'm assuming the mention of "beers" means all alcoholic beverages. Pete  (or not? :( )

Excise tax income for 2009 reaches B291bn
Published: 15/10/2009 at 02:57 PM
Online news: Breaking News Bangkok Post

The government’s income from excise tax collection for 2009 fiscal year, starting from Oct 1, 2008 to Sep 30, 2009, increased from last fiscal year by 12.91 billion baht or 4.64 per cent to 291.11 billion, director-general of Excise Department Areepong Phucha-um disclosed on Thursday.

According to him, excise tax income on oil was the largest at 91.06 billion baht, followed by 48.99 billion baht excise tax on beers and 19.28 billion baht excise tax on cars.

He projected that the excise tax income in 2010 would be nearly the same as this year at 291 billion baht.

from my company to my bank account.

from my bank account to Mrs S's account

then the audit trail gets sort of muddy but seems to involve shoes, hairdressing, a fleet of mopeds, a car, nice specs and various other things as a mysoginistic git I neither comprehend or care to worry myself with... as long as the net and tv work and the fridge is stocked I dont give a stuff.

Some of it ends up in my pocket on my way to P&P and Geronimo, then I get there and it all goes away again.

Im starting to beieve that like ghosts and UFOs money is just something that happens to other people in remote locations.

Maybe owls are involved.

Thinking about excise tax more, it's a huge cost when buying a car here.

There isn't much price negotiation here as there is in the USA, and I assume Europe and UK, where up to a 30% reduction can be achieved from sticker price. Here, we get a few extras thrown in, like 1 year of insurance, an umbrella and maybe an accessory or two.

I wonder what let's say the Toyota salesperson's face would look like if you demanded to see Toyota's excise tax invoice from the Thai government for that particular vehicle you're purchasing?

I doubt that any Thai buyer has ever asked to see one, which means to me that if no one asks or cares, the car companies may be marking it up, adding in admin costs etc. Basically making 'taxes' their own secret, small profit centre?

Anyone buying a vehicle in the near future, maybe try it on and see what happens. Pete

The odd couple. When the Mrs goes out she is always perfectly groomed.
designer jeans, shoes, handbags etc. Me well - daggy old shorts and T shirt with scruffy hair.. she gets embarrased. I get to sigh and chuckle at the same time. I can see where my money went; and in fairness to the Mrs, she looks pretty good.

At least the tax on cars and beer are discretionary to most people and commercial vehicles are less heavily taxed which is why there are so many pick-ups in Thailand.
Only the tax on fuel really hits the normal low-income Thai.

You're born then you die and in between you pay taxes. :guns:

The wife does the books in our house  and like Mrs SM a lot of money disappears into thin air and re-appears in the form of handbags, cloths and cars ETC. :?
She recently got a new one (without my help) and when asked over the phone what model she had chosen, she said "A blue one" :D

Yet my account still seems to grow in value, so I say Mrs KD for chancellor. :thumb:

Roll on Saturday, it's pocket money day here.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Mrs S looks a million dollars, and Ive yet to calculate the value of making me laugh out loud every day and making me feel secure and loved.

Im warm, happy, well fed, well cared for and have a wonderful little bundle of laughs who makes me feel loved.

Guess thats priceless..... at least ive found something worthwhile to spend money on now.
