I really miss the road hole, used to go there early evening for a burger and a whack of booze. Was there the night they got guinness in, ended up well sozzeled trying to see what the quality was like and explaining that to the wee girl behind the counter. Got some surprise when i realised the price. 7/10 for Dirty (good homely dirty),family friendly, slack but smiling staff,

Richards down past bird guest house near the beach / front of hilton, later a fish and chip shop, is great too ( when last there), really got on well with all the stray dogs thre in the evening, and no ally cats annoying us. 6/10

Jean bar, music place, used to have great tribute type bar, my wife and i could go there together, (not many places she will go). 8/10

El Murphys, a bit expensive for going a lot, but nice place to start the night, have a few drinks with herself, then move on somewhere closer and cheaper after parking her up for the night, 9/10 but wish i was richer

Crawfords ( name changed or me mixed up), just for air con and cold beer and good grub. 7/10 again expensive for a kee noi C*!T like me

limelight, for the best, biggest , gresiest breakfast in hua hin, lovely when i get up about lunchtime, but be gone by dark it changes to something strange... 5/ 10

By now you have figured i weigh a bit and dont walk to far

elmers, beer and goulash, mmmmmm, 7/10

hilton nightclub and bar to front, got it all, crap music, girls who want to impress on me even though im already with wife and friends, got chargd to get in ?? they said it was a nightclub but i think we were way too early anytime we went (dont know why we went back) oh, and did i mention expensive. 3/10 (the beer was cold and the toilets clean, and staff were decent)

Ltttle bar on street in middle of night market, where i can get half sloshed while shes shopping, without being caught ( she is too blinded by all the clothes and stuff iguess to notice what me is up to). 6/10

oh, i miss hhin, its been two winters without it. need back soon.

Elmers still there then Packie? Must admit I didn't look last trip, Nice guy though and good food. Mind you if anyone remembers Ouvre on Bintabahn (Checkpoint Charlie) - his goulashes and casseroles were great.

But you're right Sandman about the rent hikes. Offers of fixed rent for 5 year payments up front have to be a mugs game. With most people probably on 3 year renewable contracts anyway.... And yes the owners will sit and wait for however long it takes to get the rent they want. Theres a place opposite Jailhouse. Asking price phenomenal - I was told something like 100,000 a month? As of a year ago it had been vacant for a couple of years. Nice property, but when I looked at it in 2004 they were asking about 20,000.

bar on the beach,
about 500 meters past the sofitel,
build from the sea-rubbish,
a lot of flags waving,
sometimes live music, when they're stoned enough,
certainly not the best, but funny when u're in
know the name when i go there but forget it when i go out
8/10

Favourite bars:
Tina Bar: take a seat outside and watch the Bintabat traffic
Binta Bar: very relaxed, good seats, nice staff
Lucky Luke: later in the evening (after a few drinks) allways nice for a party
Ting Bar: If you didn't have enough after 2 am, goes on all night.

I'm not to worried about what i pay for a cold bottle of singha
as long as the place has a frindly atmosphere and has some good
food whatever the cost it's a damn sight cheaper than the uk I'm
surprised to see comments about penny pinching if you went to butlins
it would cost alot more id rather be in hua hin than minehead

I like to start the evening off at Paleo Beach Bar before sunset. It is a great place to have a beer on the beach. The reggae music is great but for the last two winters the speakers have been blown out. I haven't been since March but plan to go back in December. 7/10 horrific toilets, bad speakers, great view, bad sand flies. Best bear bar in town.

Sam Sam after 2:00 when the Hilton closes. Usually crazy until 4:00 or so. 8/10

Billy's bar. Always fun to kick a few back with Billy. Needs friendlier staff, fore sure. By far the coldest beer in town. A bit more for a beer (10 to 20 baht) ok 30 to 60 cents but who is counting. (not me) Free cold towels a big plus in my book! 8/10

El Murphy's has the best European beer on tap! More expensive than any bar in town besides the Hilton. 8/10 (if only they had bud on tap then it would be 10/10)

Cheeky Monkey owned by the English man and Thai woman. Great american pool table. It opened in December 08 so I hope it is still in business. I think it did well from December to April when I was in town.

Mongol Driving/Thai chilli, More of a restaurant than a bar. The best place to watch live football (real football nfl). Always fun to get a few in you and slap the nugget around. Great staff!!! Fun expat crowd. 9/10 Good food and beer prices, it would be a f*c*i*g 10 if it wasn't 10 minutes from town

Hilton only when you can tell there is more than 80 people inside (not worth it any other night) expensive beer prices, 6/10 or sometimes 9/10 Great place to meet wealthy english speaking thais from Bangkok and "local girls."

U Turn, Always a fun time and if on bintabot the place to go. 9/10 Extra points for golden tee (only one i have seen in Thailand)

An opinion of a late 20's male.
I would recommend some other bars but I forgot the crazy names. The disco by Sau Palo Hospital is good (6/10)

Believe it or not, I agree. They stopped making good American beer years ago unfortunately. Yes, you have some who still swear by brews such as Budweiser, but it's not close to the Bud of years gone by. Bring back the days of the local beers like Stroh's, Schlitz, Rheingold, Piels, Schmidts, Pabst, and so many others swallowed up by the conglomerates and the brew turned into piss. :( Pete
