For reasons I can't really explain in detail, I don't like TOA products. I base this simply on my experiences seeing them used on new build houses; concrete, wood etc., then seeing them look deteriorated in a year or two. I also base it on using it once, their top of line high solid water base for outdoor wood with comments all over the can "long lasting, UV resistant, our best etc. Two coats applied. 1 year in, the wooden trellis is faded and what was originally a dark redwood color is taking on a white/ashen appearance, obvious paint pigment breakdown due to sun/weather.
I now have to do this trellis again once the rains stop, an outdoor (direct sun) hardwood deck area covering the water holding tank for the overflow pool, and the floor/poles of a sala that is completely shaded.
I want to go with an oil base paint, not stain, and something that will last at least 2-3 years concerning the exposed surfaces, and longer for the shaded surfaces.
Any advise greatly appreciated, and if you think I'm wrong in my opinion of TOA, please elaborate. I was thinking of Jotum(sp) as they have a good history with marine/boat coatings and industrial coatings. I haven't shopped them yet though. Thanks. Pete
