Good Evening all forumites. I was in the LOS a couple of weeks ago, it was my first visit to Thailand. Landed at BKK 'swampy', met up with friends who work in Thailand, and started to make our way to Chumphon where they reside.
It was suggested that after a couple of days in BKK that we stop over in Hua Hin [HH]. Well, I'm really glad we did. After having experienced the 'delights' of Soi Cowboy and Nana I didn't know what to expect. However HH is superb. It's laid back, I felt safe, you are not getting hassled all the time like you do in BKK. There was quite a lot going on, even though it was the low season.
We were only going to stay one night but actually stayed for two - I would have stayed longer but my friends work commitments meant we had to depart. Even so for such a short time we 'discovered' O'Neils. Pint Guiness was THB200 but after we quaffed a few the price went down to THB180!? Great chips as well.
Popped over the road into the London Inn. Played some pool with one of the girls and had a pleasant time. Not pushy like it was in BKK. Leo was THB90 but given it was after midnight I thought that was reasonable. Stayed at the Top Marks hotel which had been recommended to us. Clean spacious rooms and reasonably priced. I would recommend it.
The likes of Pattaya or Phuket do simply not appeal to me so I'll be coming back next year to HH for a holiday. I expect to be spending a bit of time on the forum picking up useful info and advice.
HT.
PS Guiness is currently available in some places for GBP1.79 / THB90 a pint in the Manchester area.

Welcome HT
(fellow Guinness drinker an' all.)
First time in Bangkok can be a shock so please give it another chance. (No excuse as you live near a good airport?) But HH is good. Mind you most of us are a bit biased.
How was Chumphon then? I like the place, but beware of getting in lifts there in rainy season.
Plenty more places to explore next time, and HH is a good base. Enjoy.
