Former PM Samak dies of cancer Tuesday
Published on November 24, 2009
Samak Sundaravej, the 25th prime minister of Thailand, died of cancer on Tuesday morning.
He was 74.
Samak had been treated for cancer in Bamrungrat Hospital in Bangkok for months. He went into coma on Sunday and died on Tuesday.
He was pronounced dead at the Bamrungrad Hospital at 9:33 am Tuesday.
He would be remembered as one of the most colourful and controversial figures in Thai politics. He was known for his sharp tongue and short temper.
The veteran politician was also a celebrity cook, a newspaper columnist and owner, a Bangkok governor elected with the highest number of votes, a multiple-term MP, and a Cabinet member serving in many ministerial portfolios, including interior, transport and agriculture.

How convenient the Thai memory isHe would be remembered as one of the most colourful and controversial figures in Thai politics. He was known for his sharp tongue and short temper.
He is also known for his elbow deep involvement in the student massacres in BKK in the 70s. Something he constantly denied despite there being proof he was part of the chain of command. Like his Thaksinista shill colleagues he was an unrepentant liar and thief to the end.
Hopefully some demon is currently stewing his fat yellow ass in a pan of tom yum.

Totally agree with you SM.
Among those protesters were my wife and I guess I wouldn't even have met her if it was up to Samak and his companions/brothers in arms.
She lost a very close friend in that "battle" between heavily armed Kanchana Buri soldiers and the unarmed students.
What a shame!!
He said, as a prime minister, that only one student lost his life due to his own bad actions, but it was in fact several hundred butchered on the streets in Bangkok.
