Does anyone have any experience of trekking - from easy/moderate 1 day treks to moderate 3-4 day treks - in Kaeng Krachan NP? I'd be interested to read anyone's experiences, whether with a pre-arranged tour or whether it is possible to rock up and organise things with the park rangers.
Been reading up on the area and it seems like there are loads of opportunites for getting closer to wild Thailand not too far from Hua Hin.

I have been on 3 different treks there first one about 15 years ago and the last one was in 2004. First one was a one day trek and the other two were 2 and 3 days respectively.
We organized with the rangers who were most helpful, so I would say go there with a Thai friend and tell them what you are looking for and I am sure they will be more than willingly to guide you.
I didn't actually trek it but did spend a few days there a year or so back, its definitely worth a visit. Trip report and pics here:

I hit the link you gave in your report Buksida. Here is a copy and paste from the English page of that site (it's a classic):
"Kaeng Krachan River Resort. Comfortable accommodation next diamond stream. To wade into.
Two environments. Stream suitable for exterior style of play fun.
With activities. To the resort set. The stream inside. River rapids is not static.
Suitable for children. Able to play safely. Fresh water, clean environment.
Makes you inhale fresh air and moist lung in your holiday with peace of mind.
Brunch special with delicious taste of the resort on the waterfront location installation. Table set allows you to record arch atmosphere.
In a pleasant dining.
Kaeng Krachan River Resort is located over 30 acres of farm environment with fruit from different species. You'll see views of the clean.
Since first came here. Broad area of activity can have multiple simultaneous representation, whether on an outdoor stage.
Or a karaoke rooms."

Yeah, some of the translations you get on these Thai websites are classic. I mean what foreigner in their right mind would try to write something in Thai for publication without having a National proof read it ... beggars belief. Some of the Thai businesses that spend thousands on signs made up in badly spelt English also cracks me up, guess it must be a face thing.
Enjoy KK, its a great spot.

Mr.VS and I have been considering a trip there for a while, and the place on Buksi's link looks lovely - thanks. We're both keen bird-watchers and adore peace and quiet (apart from the noise of nature).
Warning!! Ring up the place and make sure that there aren't any student 'field trips' booked when you want to go. They make a heck of a lot of noise and usually organise bongo drums and entertainment (including the dreaded karaoke) during the evening/night. It could ruin your trip! A year or so ago we spent a day at a delightful resort in Bang Krut with some students. We left early evening, but the kids were preparing for a night of noise and fun. Not so much fun for the other residents who had possibly picked this resort for peace and quiet...

I've never actually made it up there - sounds very nice to 'Get away from it all'.
As Vital Spark pointed out - the majority of Thais are going there to party!
The family of a Thai pal own a bungalow up there and i had an invite a few years ago - His sister warned me that the only time he goes outside is to throw up...
