I only use one singular forum and that is HHAD i have never posted on any other forum.
When i first got my puter i did read most of the other Thai forums and found that HHAD was head and shoulders above the rest :D :D
I have had my spats and argy bargy with other members on all sorts of subects but mostly because i do feel strongly on some issues
I have had some disagreements with moderators past and present but i do respect the way they generaly run the forum :thumb:
Most of the members while not being (thank god)of the same mind or thought are pretty articulate inteligent and well mannered and one can learn a lot from many exchanges :D :D

But mostly i use HHAD because it is FUN

I joined this forum because I was interested in actual and updated info about the Hua-Hin area. Both regarding what to see, where to buy what and what not to do.
Quickly I found out that there are many interesting discussions going on concerning numerous other topics and - what I believe is important - this forum is possibly the fastest way to get an advice (or at least a hint on where to go) about a potential problem when I am in Thailand.

Trying to build up my posts so I can get on the Private Forum for access to the night life and better part of the board. I hope to achieve this before I leave for Hua Hin on the 11th of Jan.

HHAD forum

Post by Chas »

I will begin by saying that my New Year's resolution was never to make another post on HHAD. I have already removed HHAD from my favorites list . .but it is the only game in town. So, ever optimistic. .I keep coming back hoping for the best. (obviously my resolution lasted only three days!)

I joined HHAD mainly to find out what is happening in town and to get help with local connections/services etc. The latter has proved to be a useful function and other members have been of terrific assistance in the past for which I am very grateful. Thanks.

But forum performance on the former has ranged from dismal (that thread on the big tennis match, which I would like to have followed and found out more about, was appalling. . .I never went back) to non-existent ( the new OTP building looks finished, Hua Hin Food Festival? the roadways in town have been horribly repainted, New Year's Eve? no observations? Nothing happened in Hua Hin? Information on what's happening in town? I just dont see much coming up here.

Why dont I start threads and/or post? Yeah, right. Whenever I post or start a thread on things that interest me and that I think might interest others, one of three things happens. ( Sometimes all three!)
1. The thread is not on football or the bar scene so it is apparently of no interest whatsoever to 90% of HHAD members
2. the thread attracts the "regulars" who haunt HHAD and who feel obliged to post critically on everything
3. the thread gets hijacked by juvenile attempts at cleverness and humor. Any one of these just pisses me off and I stay away for weeks at a time.
( Even this thread has already gone off.)

Building a Hua Hin online community? Someplace interesting, pleasant and idiot-free. .with news of this town we live in and intelligent, thoughtful observations on this marvelous country and its people? That would be so nice. Working toward a forum based on the respectful discussion of a variety of local topics . . .now there is a New Year's resolution for us all.

Chas, maybe your new year's resolution should be to stop being so negative about everything and make an effort to avoid the small elements of this online community that you find so offensive.

Wouldn't life be grand if every website catered only to our own personal desires, chas.com probably does so please stop berating the only active forum in Hua Hin because it still gets 2,000 people per day that do find something interesting to read here (although recently it has been a little quiet - online communities usually are during holiday periods when people are not at their computers).

Maybe an idiot-free forum is no longer attainable in a town with more than its fair share of idiots.

If you had no advertising on any type of forum/website, how do you think it would survive.
Try running one and you may understand the time and effort it takes to keep it running in a professional manner.

Chas, i am afraid you will always get the Troll and the one that has to correct someones spelling or grammar. They just want to spoil a good forum.
