can you tell me how the state of the course is now ? last June it was gettingbetter a lot,

I know there will be a Asia tour Q school next week, so I guess it will be fine, Im headed down there in two weeks but hope to find out some details before I get there.
I played the A-B courses in mid-Dec and the course condition was good then. Play was slower than usual as peak tourist season had just kicked-in. Sam the marshall was doing his best to speed up play but there was a couple of tour groups that slows the play...seemed to be a one-off.

I will be playing there again this weekend, and will try to provide an update again early next week.

I played C four times in December (all four nines, well three nines and a six), and it was in as good of a condition as any course I've ever played, however, it was crowded and slow as I played both rounds between Christmas and New Year.

I'll be there for the roll up on the 18th, so hope to see you there. Not having swung a club in anger since October, I need a big handicap revision (please Kenny).

I played on Sat 9th Jan. Went to 1 st tee box at A course to tee off at 11am, but there were a couple of flights ahead of me waiting to tee off, so we went to C course for a beautiful relaxed round...not much traffic on C and the course was in great condition. For the back 9 we played the A course, which wasd a bit slow, although we still managed to finish our 18 holes in about 4.5 hours.

I was expecting diabolical rough and super fast greens on the A course due to the Asian Tour Q School finale being held on A/B later this week, but conditions were similar to when I played there last month (greens fast but not too bad, and the rough was same as usual).

By the way, I noticed at the club-house a new term membership promo of 120,000 baht for 5 years...may be attractive to folks who plan to spend a few years only in Hua Hin / Cha-am).

Do you still have to pay nominal green fees and a caddie fee with this membership or is the only extra cost caddie tips?

Think maintenance fee same as normal membership (10,700 baht per year) caddie fee at 250 baht and tip.

I'm not a golfist myself, but I came across this Canadian article on golf in Thailand that gives Hua Hin and Banyan a mention:

Thailand is a world-class golf destination.

Hi all

Can anyone please tell me if I'm correct in thinking DB golf course is free to play on? I seem to recall Lomu mentioning this on here somewhere?

I've also read on here that it's not the best course around, but for someone like me who has yet to step onto a course, it sounds like a great opportunity.

On a slightly different note.......heading off to the driving range a little later today for the first time to test my skills with my 6 iron when hitting a real ball instead of those little plastic ones. :thumb: Everyone I've spoken to has said I'll get hooked, and I already am, and that without even having been on a course yet.

Also, does anyone have any info regarding the new military course opening in Takiap near the beach?

Thanks all

DB is free but u pay 20baht for your golf cart! Course in takieb is being grassed now so could possibly be ready for play by the end of the year, i am not sure how long they like the course to wait after completion before they start play here in Asia. I am told that prices will be similar to Danarat - that would really be great for HUa Hin prices!
Tip of the day - make sure you grip the club lightly and in your fingers, not in the palm of your hand.

I'd say the DB is ideal for you as a beginner. Was there again last Sunday and I think the trolley fee had gone up to 30THB!!! Free to play.
It's a good layout, lots of water. Not in great condition, but what can you expect for free?
If you go, give yourself a chance. Don't play to Royal and Ancient Rules of Golf. Place the ball everywhere so you get a decent lie and even move the ball on the greens to get smoother roll.
Enjoy it.

Awesome news, thanks guys, and thanks for the tip JW. Just waiting for the missus to get back from town, then I'm off to the driving range. Oh, and she doesn't get back soon it'll be her that I use my 6 iron on rather that a golf ball...lol.

I'd agree with that in that it is free to play and if you go during the week it is pretty much empty so you don't have to worry about embarrassing yourself or speed of play.

However, the course is extremely challenging for a beginner or high handicapper imo in that it has lots of (some fairly long) shots over water and lots of blind shots and doglegs. Be sure to buy a (cheap) bag of used balls at the clubhouse (more of a club-shack or club lean-too actually :D ) because you will lose a few.

Very cheap tasty Thai meals can be had between nines or after your round at the shack prepared by the lady who runs the place too! Few choices but the kapow gai is good and filling. :thumb:

Buksi told me the same, never played it.
It would be cool if we could get a few to do Krang Kachan on a Thursday, sure Lomu could nt sure if Buksi could though - any one up for that one?
