cheap, fun bar sought

cheap, fun bar sought

Post by gasman2 »

I was wondering if there was any decent bars in town that do bottles cheaper than 70bht with young owners and a fun crowd, as opposed to a grumpy/sleazy one. Music and atmosphere would be a nice but unlikely addition. TIA

Are you saying that young owners and a fun crowd don''t do sleazy?

And said young owners and fun crowd are unlikely to have music and an atmosphere?

And you want a bottle of beer for less than 70 baht?

Think I'll stick with grumpy! :)

gasman2 :?

70 Baht is a fair price, just how cheap do you want your beer?

The reason some bar owners are grumpy is having to sell beer at less than that, to people with no money and still make a small profit.

Hi Caller

Yes, it may be cheaper elsewhere, but the OP asked about prices in Hua Hin bars.

I expect he could get a beer a bit cheaper outside of the Bintabaht area, if he looked around a bit. But are those bars as much fun?
 Maybe someone on here will point him to a cheap drink.

Pattaya would be cheaper for drinks, but that is part of the problem, so many bars having to close, maybe due in part to the cheap prices they have to sell their beer for.

Personally for me, 70 Baht for a beer in comfortable surroundings, good company, friendly landlord/lady and no hassle, is IMHO, a small price to pay.

You beat me to it! Seriously though there are cheaper bars. Not MUCH cheaper. But I can't think of any that will fit the other requirements as well, unless you try a Thai Singing Bar maybe?
For me there's enough excitement to be found these days sitting in the Railway Bar, but it doesn't attract too many youngsters (which helps me feel at home.)
Maybe the answer is to switch to cheaper drinks?

This is true. A pint of Mekong and a few bottles of soda will set one back how much......about 150 Baht?, and good for at least 2-3 hours. :D Pete

70 Baht a beer is around 200% gross profit - is this really so cheap?

The rents are too high and that is the main cause of the problem.

That's true so the only way you'll get beer cheaper is by going out of town.

Nearly all normal bars/restaurants in non touristy areas sell beer at around 50 baht for a large bottle. Of course the entertainment in such establishments is also quite different and could consist of a 112 year old powder-faced mama hawking bits of her lung into the street, packs of howling kids running around like loons, drunken yokels rocking up for their daily fix of lao khao and 'em roi hahsip', and rabid flea-bitten dogs roaming beneath the tables.
