Oh come on folks!!

I'm in the Bay Area. It is 55-degrees and raining. I go to the local bar and it costs $3.50 (100+ bhat) a pint and there is little eye candy and what there is has sweat pants and sweaters on. I'd gladly pay 70 or even 80 bhat for a beer

HM, $3.50 (100+ bhat) for a proper beer is none too bad - it is the crap Leo / Chang beers that we are talking about here. AND, I can assure you that there is next to buggr all eye candy in this part of North West England, [plenty of Lardies if that's what rocks your boat though]. MH.
It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.

I can't for the life of me see how 70 Baht for a bottle of beer in centre of town is expensive, but we're all different etc.
But say for arguments sake it is expensive, I can't see for the life of me why any expat would expect to pay anything less than a higher price for beer bang in the centre of a tourist area. Derrrr.

Some people think 70 or 80 baht means the bar is ripping them off because a small Chang is 28 baht or so in 7/11. I guess they think that rent, electrics, water, taxes, employees, furniture and fitings, police pension fund etc all come free of charge.

I'd say these days that the 4-5 bars at the intersection of Poolsuk and Selakam seem to be the most entertaining; and 80 baht for an import (San Miquel Light) isn't so bad, also the Moonlight on Selakam can be fun as well!

HansMartin, I would happily trade places with you. The Bay Area of California is the best place in the world to live without a doubt imo and if you can afford to live there, don't ever move here because you will never be happy after living there! I lived in the south bay area (Campbell) for 15 years and it is the best place in the world imo. Downhill skiing 3 hours to the east and the beach 45 minutes to the west and both in April in the same weekend... the best cycling terrain and roads in the world and the best wine at good prices... what more could you ask for? I was raised in Tennessee, lived in California, Florida, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Thailand, but I still love California the most! No matter how much you have to pay for beer, if you can afford to live there, stay! It's the best lifestyle in the world!
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

And so say all of us. Anyway, it's official, California is bankrupt:
