23 fishing cats found in Prachuap Khiri Khan

A large number of 23 fishing cats were found in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Sam Roi Yod district, prompting Thai authorities to conduct an in-dept research to conserve them, whom the International Union for Conservation of Nature has just enlisted as among the world's near-extinct species.

Pornchai Pathumratanatan, director of Natural Resources and Environment Ministry's Wildlife Conservation Office, said this habitat of Thailand's reported highest number of fishing cats located in the area called "Thung Nong Pakchi" in Tambon Khao Daeng and Tambon Don Yai Noo.

The problem is that once people start to jump around and try conserve them, and they perhaps become a tourist attraction, they'll end up as throw rugs or in a zoo in order to 'save them'. I can see the poachers licking their chops now while reading this story in the Thai rags. Pete

Probably the off spring from a pregnant cat the Thais dumped there years ago. All we now is 2300 fishing dogs with mange!

I had a cat once, that jumped up on the side of the bath while I was in there.

The damn thing fell in and was spitting and screaming as it "doggy paddled" up the bath towards me.

I don't know if it was fishing or not, but it was getting too bloody close to my tackle, for my liking.
