DB?

Code?

We now seem to be inviting mates to some secret course.

Is this a forum or some private club?

Have a good day.

Are we talking about playing at Dolphin Bay or Kaeng Krachan?

I don't mind either way.

And you're welcome to a lift wherever it is, Lomu :)

As per my earlier post...RE: my first visit to a driving range.

What a time I had........every ball was a hole in one....lol.

Not sure how it measures up but most of my balls went beyond the 100 meter mark, and I'd say most of the ones that did, also went relatively straight.

However!!!!! I found it to be quite severe on my left hand as in quite a shock each time I hit a ball. Does this mean I need a softer grip on the club, or am I holding the club too tight?

Also, whenever I hit the ball you could really hear it as opposed to the Thai next to me. When he hit the ball there was almost no sound at all, and every one of his balls flew straight....bugger.

Anyway, making it to about 100 to 125 meters with a six iron I felt pretty chuffed with myself considering I had never hit a ball in my life before. Back again tomorrow and I'll try to be a little more relaxed this time.....lol

Would love to join you guys for a game but not yet. I will be up for it but you'll just need to give me a month or two to get a little more practice in and also a set of clubs, etc, etc, etc.

I'm definitely up for a game ... can only do weekends though.

Been hacking around DB again a bit more, breaking 50 still eludes me - the worst is when you need a double bogey on the last hole to do it and end up with a fuggin 8.

A general question. I played 72 holes with 3 crazy visiting Chinese friends between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening over here at Emerald and Eastern Star, and my body reflects the abuse today. :(

Tuesday I couldn't wear my normal golf shoes as still soaked from the previous days so broke out a new pair of Nike golf shoes I had bought back in the States 3 years ago and had never worn. They are the sports shoe style, like a running shoe with spikes. About hole 5 the bottom sole on one started to peal off. By hole 9 the other, and I finished the rounds in what could be described as Nike bedroom slippers.

Is this a problem with golf shoes with glued on soles? They were stored in a dry and cool place the entire 3 years and it's really disappointing (and expensive) to have this happen. :cuss: Pete

Krang Kachan would make a good day out, not sure if we could get a deal to play all 27 holes - will see if any mileage in that one. Its a little more expensive at weekends but still really cheap!

Takiep, second tip and the best one you will ever get - if you enjoyed the feeling of hitting the ball and it seems you did, you also made contact all of the time which is great - get in touch with John Wither and take some lessons - he is experienced in teaching from absolute beginner through to tour players. If you continue to blast away on your own you will only develop bad habits... get the basics in and your journey to breaking the magic 100 will be much more enjoyable and faster!!

27 holes, you need to be as fit as a butchers dog to that mileage :-)

Agreed. 27 holes is just 9 too many for me. The days of playing 54 holes in a day are long gone - 34 years ago in fact and that was in the UK not Thailand.

Sorry just to jump back to Dolphin Bay again. I went down there with the Mrs a fortnight ago - she's just started learning and we thought it was the best place to go for 9 holes away from prying eyes. Anyway, it is challenging for a beginner for sure, but you dont have to take on every shot over the water - there was one carry on the 5th or 6th in front of the green that she would never make, so she just went round to the drop zone and hit it onto the green from there. What it gives the not so good golfer on 4 or 5 holes is the chance to take on what appears to be a really scary challenge to hit across the water, and then to do it!! Honestly, if you get the ball 80 yards or so through the air, you'll have no problems, even if it means playing off a couple of ladies tees.

It is free to play other than the aforemention 30B for a trolley (you can carry if you want). It's great fun, great value and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who's just starting or who wants a fun hack round. Oh, and its beuatiful and you can go for a snack by the beach afterwards if you want. Thoroughly recommended

Well said, Jim.
For beginners, that's the way to play the course. I'm pretty sure that the hole you're talking about is the 5th - it's the only approach shot over water.
The 6th, off the back tee can be pretty daunting as well. The carry has to be 150 or so yards - that's the par 5. A quick Leo beer at the little shack before teeing off can give you all the confidence you need, but it dosn't guarantee success over the water

It does, I never make that shot unless I've had a beer!

Well I'm well and truly bitten by the bug now. Was back at the driving range yesterday and was hitting relatively straight most of the time. Was aiming for that purple flag on the left (112 yards) with my old 6 iron and was making the distance at least. A few more visits to the driving range, perhaps a few lessons, and then it's time to buy my set of clubs and hit DB.

PS: I take it you don't have to take a caddy when you play at DB? I know they are a huge plus but when I first start out I think I'd be better off without one, and in any case, I more than happy to push/pull my own trolley.

One other thing......has DB only got 9 holes or are there 18?

Lastly, I wouldn't even consider playing without a cold Chang beforehand. I even make sure I get one in when going to the range....lol.
