Not being up to speed on exactly what it is, I did some research and suggest same. Google 'bamboo tattoo thailand". It seems that the hot spots for this are Koh Samui, Phi Phi and Koh Chang, although many say the shaft may be bamboo but the tip is ceramic, steel or some other non-traditional type.
The experts all seem to say you need to search out a Wat and a Monk up country who has experience if you want the real thing. Apparently there are many but not well advertised or easy to find. Pete

its definately available in HH.
Last year, in the Lord Nelson. a guy came in, and ordered a take away tattoo. the guy came to the bar and did it there and then.
the bloke getting it done was pretty pi$$ed, and it definately hurt him.(there were tears)
the owner has since moved on from the pub but, if you ask around in a few of the traps someone will definately have the contact details of the tattoo guy.
