Which bars receive Australia Network?

Discussion on where to go when the sun goes down in Hua Hin; bars, pubs, clubs, karaoke and general nightlife.

Which bars receive Australia Network?

Post by f0xxee »

.....and show the Rugby League?

Hi all,

I missed most of last NRL season from Australia in HH last year as I couldn't find a bar that had Australia Network and showed the games.

I am hoping to be better informed this year.

So if any bar owners could let me know they would certainly receive my custom (and I drink a lot of Rum) Fridays and Sundays.

Any information appreciated.

Should not be that hard to find as is on the Australia Pacific channel on cable. Know that Bernies bar behinds the hilton has it but guess many others would have it also. You can go on the web to the Australia pacific website to find out what times the games are on.

Hi TJ,

Many thanks for the advice. I spent the grand final last year searching HH for a bar and they were all showing the F1 GP. Most frustrating.

Hi Bladerunner,

They go together: Where ever the Aussie network is the AFL and NRL will be...

SO: any other bars besides the tip from TJ?

You were probably there at the wrong time, Oz is three hours ahead of us and the last grand final I saw started about 1.00pm.
The games, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, are on the Hua Hin's cable TV service's Australia Network.
Just about every bar in town appears to have cable as the bar girls are usually sat there glued to the Thai soap operas. Persuading them to change io Aussie football will be your biggest problem!

Hi news,

With due respect I was a Navigator for 15 years and are well aware of time zones.
Yes most of the bars have cable. However that does NOT include AN if it is True Visions.
The problem is True Visions does not have Australia Network as part of its package or I would watch it at home. This becomes more surprising given theat when living in Singapore with all the same chanels Aussie Network was an ad-on for 15 SGD a month, and when living in Vietnam it was free to air: and again with virtually all the same channels as True has.
It would seem the only way to get A.N is to get another satellite dish and aim it low at the eastern horizon, about 15 degrees of elevation.
Given that the dish is 2m diameter, I find it unlikely the owners of my house and the body corporate or what ever will let me put a 2m wok on the roof and make the place look like a spy post.
Shame that! (ps: 10,000 Baht gets you the 2m dish, set top box and FREE TV including AN if you got the space to put it.)

I think that you may be getting confused with what is "cable" tv and what is DTH / Satellite / True Visions.
The cable tv referred to above is a physical cable, not Satellite. It may not be available in your area, but if it is the subscription is Bht 2,500 / year, and it carries Australian Network. No need for any set top boxes, decoders or a dish.

Hi Nereus,

Ah thanks for the explanation. I am down in Soi 126 and don't think cable is available there. I will try to find out.
Cheers for the advice.
