More help with restaurants

Post by lomuamart »

We've been invited out tonight for dinner and I'm really at a loss where to suggest - the choice is ours'.
The friends have tried Coco 51, Chowlay, Itsara, Let's Sea and been round the night market a few times.
We rarely go into town to eat, so I'm pretty stumped. I suppose what we're looking for is somewhere with a good atmosphere, probably by the sea to try and get some breeze and a place that won't break the bank.
One of our friends is a Head Chef back in the UK, so he's a real food buff.
I know it's a wide ranging quest for information, but all suggestions are welcome.

Supatra by the sea would fit the bill.

Those qualifications are tough. I've never been there but I've heard good reports about the food and views from the roof top restaurant at this place:
Maybe someone who has been there can verify the quality and prices...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thanks folks.
Price is an obvious consideration, especially as I'm not paying and don't know what the budget is. However, maybe 1,000THB a head? I doubt we'll be on the wine list as we're perfectly happy with cold beers.
I've heard good reports of Supatra before and I'll follow up on your suggestion hhfarang.

Unless you start ordering lobsters you won't break your budget at supatra on a 3 course with 4-5 beers . I have heard good reports about the secret but never been. The Dusit does a fantastic buffet and carvery on a monday night for around 800 baht with half price drinks ie 2-4-1 from 5-7 as I recall. We always order say 3 in that period and the other 3 come through the evening gratis. I think it's the best value in Hua Hin with sunday brunch at the Hyatt a close second. I get my moneys worth on the starters and the cheeseboard alone and I am not a big eater. Setting is fantastic and there are outside tables for the smokers.

Lomu, for around 1k per head only drinking beer you can go to the dim sum restaurant at the top of the Hilton and sit out on the viewing balcony for one of the best views in Hua Hin! :D

In fact, I've been to most of the top restaurants here and 1k per head will pretty much cover them all if you're not drinking spirits or wine.

Supatra is a good choice by the way. Very nice oceanside setting in Takiab, pleasant live dinner music (at least on weekends) and decent food depending on what you order.

Why not try the Yu Yen in Naebkehardt Rd.

Good food, not expensive, sea breeze. Sorted. :thumb:

To late for your planned night out Lomu but worth considering for another time.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

We went there recently and I would agree with you - although we didn't order our mains well - and I recall that a small beer (all they had) was 160 baht.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We settled on La Mer.
There was plenty of good food and enough beers for a total of around 2,000 between four of us. I hadn't eaten there before, but the nighttime view, sea breeze and service were excellent.

Excellent choice, I really like it up there.

Richard, going up the hill to the temple at Khao Takiap, bear sharp left and back down the hillside again. It's very well sign posted. I wouldn't fancy doing the trip by tuk tuk - could be a bit of a white knuckle ride.

Got it BB

Been up to the top (made me dizzy and gave me vertigo) but never been to La Mer. Will give it a try with my girls

Being slightly built as are my girls I guess we may make it a TT

Lets face it BB you are a little bigger than me (I have lunched with you and noticed) and a TT would probably get me and my girls there

I don't think you'll be disappointed. If you're lucky, they'll have the Elvis impersonator on duty. He does a really mean Puff the Magic Dragon.
