Agoda gets my vote generally, but you also find a lot of great deals on the ground. Generally, I'd book a couple or 3 nights on Agoda and then look araound when you get there. HRS is more secure with its bookings - the bookings are guaranteed when you make them; agoda sends you a confirmation. I often use HRS if I am going slightly upmarket, and always in Europe. Not sure if the site is in English though - I generally use HRS.de, which is in German. Pretty easy in any case to find somewhere very decent in Bangkok for under 1500 and quite a few at or under 1000 will be quite acceptable.
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....
