Do you dive right into the local cuisine when there Terry? I've read about 'Delhi belly' and seems the risk is much higher than 'Bangkok belly'. There must still be some places that remember how to cook British style? Pete

I think that you get 'conditioned' to it!

I first traveled to Delhi in 1991 (3 separate business trips of approx 10 days each).

Each time, I stayed in 5 star hotels (Sheraton, Taj Palace & Imperial), had a private car & driver at my disposal and ate mostly in the hotel or our agent's home.

I still got the shits each visit.

On this assignment I am staying in a business hotel (I suppose for comparison about 3 star).
I am on my 4th visit having completed about 6 months here in the last year.
I eat in the hotel and lunch at a local YWCA hostelry. They have a very clean restaurant.

I have had 3 doses of Delhi Belly. :(

In a city where most males cannot pass by a wall without having to urinate all over it - it's no wonder that Delhi Belly has earned itself such a reputation :cuss:

I've been over there twice. Once backpacking and the second just for a three week holiday.
I have had the odd stomach upset, but nothing too bad. At the time, it's maybe as much to do with the richness of the food, chilli and the heat as much as bad food.
However, especially when I was backpacking, I did what most Indians do and went vegetarian. The only meat I'd eat would have been in a "decent" hotel/restaurant or with family.
Meat is relatively so expensive in India that it's not thrown away or stored correctly. Vegetables, however, are fairly abundant so your likely to get fresh stuff in most places.
And another trick is to eat natural yoghurt with your meals. There's some culture in it that kills off the bacteria that can cause stomach upsets.

Lomu

Valid points

I usually have natural yoghurt, tea and a few dried crackers for breakfast. Seems to assist in lowering the number of bacterial serial downloads that I have suffered. 8)

Having said all of this, there is no doubt in my mind that the total lack of anything approaching cleanliness and good hygienic standards is the root cause for most of the Delhi Belly. :guns:

My journey to work, every day, is about 8 km. I count the number of men seen pissing up the walls. The minimum is 4 and the all time record is now 19! :banghead:

Delhi, is in my opinion, an open sewer.

But I'm trying to get fit, Pete. Less beer, a bit of swimming and some golf. hhfarang also sent me one with a Chang bottle in the picture a while ago. I've got that saved, but am just not sure if either accurately reflects my regimen at the moment

I suppose this thread really should be about "interesting advertisements" so we should veer back on course.
If your mouse makes it to the big time, Pete, PM him.

I've looked at it, and although very clever, I'm not sure we should be discussing the 'interesting' bit on an open forum. Basically, people will either understand the clever bit or not - I think we should leave it there.
Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd

Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED

Whatever they're selling they'll have to do it quicker than that if they want to keep my attention!
