HuntingTigers in Chumphon

Post by HuntingTigers »

Arrived yesterday in BKK. Met by arranged taxi from Jing's guest house, [2000 THB]. Beats the heck out of any other way of travelling - good, fast driver - with air con - great.

Met Peter and an Aussi chap called Graham. Had a few bevys in Jing's bar. Peter is a font of knowledge when it comes to Hua Hin especially the after dark scene.

Later went out for a stroll. O'Neils 235THB for a pint of Westons bitter, only had a half at those prices. Big basket of chips 95THB. Special offer on Heiniken 110THB a pint?

Got lost in night market, eventually found my way back. Went to Scotties Bar, Poolsuk Place. Bloody confusing. I bought my drink and went to site at a table away from the bar. Can't do that as those seats belong to another bar. No doubt easy to understand when you're not jed lagged and very tired. Small Leo 80THB.

Went back to Jing's. En route passed London Bar - popped in for one 'last' one. Small Leo 70THB. Surprise, surprise - met BG who I first saw last October. [Continues in Night Crawler forum].

Booked train ticket for Friday on 11.14 to Chumphon. No problems - 393THB. Station guy spoke reasonable English.

More news when I get time.

Good luck HT, keep us updated. I kind of like this travelogue approach and any pitfalls and dicey situations you may find yourself in. If you follow through, makes for interesting reading for other visitors. Pete

I was in Chumpon seeing if it was viable for living in long term.
It isn't easy.

You've got hotels, ST hotels and houses. But from what I could gather with the houses its a case of sharing for the most part!
Nowhere that's what I could find, even with a local helping me look.
But as a transit hub to the islands of Tao and Samui etc it's ok.
But the local vibe i picked up are somehow more aloof and less friendly than elsewhere in Thailand.

I've stayed overnight there a number of times when I was doing border runs to Ranong.
Had some great times, including once when I got off the HH train about 9pm, met some locals and they just showed me around town. I can remember we went to a big disco and around 7am they poured me onto a minibus to Ranong.
Good fun :thumb:

It's 02.45 hours down here in Chumphon - I can't sleep, so I'm having a beer, [Leo naturally seeing as it is my namesake], and updating here on HHAD.

Well Rider you are better informed than I am. I have at most... Hold on guys, I dropped a right *llocks on my last post about the London Bar, I inadvertently posted it on the Beach Bar forum so I'll be posting from the NC forum on this topic.

Around Cabana Beach and Sairee Beach near the Novotel look pretty nice areas of Chumpon, both a bit out of town though.
