Humidity vs Heat

Post by Spitfire »

I generally enjoy hot whether, up to 33-35 is quite Ok, more than that starts getting a bit toasty though. However, it seems to me, or at least for me, that humidity plays a huge role. If it just before a rain storm then sweating is a problem if high humidity is present, some say "It's close." On a clear day that hot then no problems, just a bit of brow persperation, even if 38-40.

Did try to edit, but denied. Was supposed to add, "How do you find it?" or "What do you think?"

I put the below up this morning on the 'weather' thread in Beach Bar SF. Humidity makes a huge difference, just as wind chill makes a huge difference in danger from cold. I'm beyond hot at the moment as heat index again here is 46C just like yesterday, and not a cloud in sight. :( :( Pete

It's f'ing hot! I like 22 Celsius (72 Fahrenheit) with very little humidity and a nice breeze... what am I doing here you ask... I ask myself that question every day! :|
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I can generally get by with hot temperatures but once the wind eases in the afternoons, as it probably will in a month or so, and humidity rises I'm poleaxed. Anything that needs to be done outside of aircon - other than golf and swimming - needs to be completed in the early mornings.

For me heat is no problem, up to 45c ok. But the humidity sometimes it feels as if you are eating the air not breathing it.

edited for spelling
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

Take a long look at the below link just to be aware. Isn't hard these days to fall into it without realizing you've reached that point. Pete

You know, getting dressed in a sport coat, tie, light overcoat and strolling the shopping streets of London on a crisp Spring day, stopping in to some nice place for tea and watch the people go by, has a strange appeal to me at the moment. It's been so long since I've done something like that I'd feel like I was in a time warp to a previous life. :D Pete

Re: Humidity vs Heat Vs dehydration

Above the urinals at work are 'Pee Charts' (attached) to allow workers to check urine and know when they need to drink more to combat heat and humidity. Some workers must dress in woollen safety clothing and withstand air temperatures of 55 c degrees. Humidity at lower temperatures, outside at 40 c, is just as bad on the body defence systems. When I get home from work in summer I usually check performance against the chart to see how much more beer or water I have to drink.
