Bangkok on Foot

Post by PeteC »

This is a very useful little link with video that the Bangkok Post has initiated. I don't know how often it's updated with new places but I hope a few times a year at least. Pete

It's surprising for a large SE Asian city, but you can explore Bangkok quite easily by foot if you can handle the heat.
I once spent three days there walking around the whole city, without any problems at all which is not something I would try in Jakarta!

On my last trip I left the skytrain at the National stadium looking for the royal palace and started walking down the road heading towards the river,

A thai bloke kept saying to me as I passed him "nothing down there" wasn't sure exactly where I was going until I crossed over the railway line, I ended up about an hour or 2 later at Hualapong Station, knackered.

Last time I took someone on the "tourist trip" in Bangkok I found a very pleasant way to get to the Grand Palace from the Sukhumvit area without taking a taxi. We took the BTS to what used to be the end of the line at the river and then took a river boat bus upriver to the Palace area where we spent most of the day walking around before returning via the same method. My friend enjoyed the boat ride on the river as much as anything else... cheap, easy, and more fun that sitting in traffic in a taxi.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
