ADSL in Hua Hin

Post by Farang »

.
I puchased from TT&T shop a USB ADSL modem and made an agreement with CSLoxinfo on 256/128 kBps
unlimited service for 1500 Baht/month. After waiting for a week for my username and password and with
some slight hassle in the beginning, it is now up and running. Easy & convenient and they speak English at the shop.

The modem cost 1600 Baht. I have seen the very same modem on Pantipprice.com site costing 2300++ Baht.

The real speeds on my DU -meter seem to be 12 - 35 kBps as opposed to real speeds on dial-up of 0 - 3 kBps.
Not fast, but one helluva improvement on the dial-up.

My laptop is now constantly on and downloading the music I want. Hallelujah, bro!

The TT&T shop is opposite the Salesian School, on the Phetskasem road on the corner of Thip Urai road.

ADSL Hua Hin

Post by buksida »

Good info.

I've been wanting to do this but need to change my phone line as its TOT :cuss:

To get a good measure of speed go here and test it:
http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

Let us know what you get, I may be looking at changing my phone line

I take it there is no limit on bandwidth with this accountt?

In search of speed

Thanks for the link for the speed measurement. This is the result I got.:

152.9 kilobits per second
Communications 152.9 kilobits per second
Storage 18.7 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 54.9 seconds
Subjective rating Mediocre

Info
Date & time Monday, November 15, 11:43AM*
Test type IDT4 Free
Connection type ADSL
Region not listed
Data size 605KB

BTW, I think I have a ToT line and it is no hassle whatsoever. It appears ToT line is TT&T line.

Remember to keep an eye on the TT&T phone bills. They tried to overcharge me twice. :guns:

As I expected, you'll never get near the 256Kb, its a theoretical maximum. Still 159 is a helluva lot better than your dialup modem eh? The speed will probably be better at night when there are less users.

By the way what are the telephone charges? Is it a local call, ie. 3 baht for as long as you are connected? If not it could work out very expensive.

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to cast a keen eye upon the TT&T billing. As it now is, 1 500 baht/month should cover all the costs.

BTW: do not choose, I repeat: do not choose CsLoxinfo as your carrier. They have been frequently down
and their technical support really, really sucks. Any other carrier is sure to be superior (superiour?) to CsSuxinfo.

PRICES

I have had an ADSL for a while now. The costs are:

1500 baht + VAT = 1. 605 bath/month
TOT telephone line 110 bath/month

That's all the charges I pay for unlimited 256/128 line, that has real DL/UL speed of abt. 25 kBps.

There's an ADSL offer on a streamer in front of the TOT building on Damnokasem road.
I have a photo of it, but do not know how to upload "dem pitchers on de net"
I'll mail it to buksida or Lev. (I must be drunk, I've double vision) for publication.

Anyroad, do not use Loxinfo connection. It often is down or just totally frozen, particularly
in the morning and in the afternoons. And their technical support sucks royally.

Anything else must be better.

Not that I like promoting TOT mind you, I think their service and phone lines suck.

Er no, its 500 baht a month ... as stated above.

The higher priced ones are for the corporate accounts, ie people that actually need to rely on it working.

During my visits to HH I need access to email and my office inbox, it is therefore quite important that I have a reliable service, it does however seem that the ADSL charges are a bit steep. I have a quote from Maxnet for about 1500 per month but this is for 256 down. What are my best options ?

Before you even entertain the idea of using Maxnet I suggest you read this:

OK Buksida, you have succeeded in turning me off of Maxnet, seems like a nightmare and as it is vital that I have a decent connection what would you suggest................ ?

I'm reposting this post here.

If nobody can answer your question you should try this link:
http://www.adslthailand.com/

If still confused search through the English Board and see if you can find it there.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.
