Ornithologists
Ornithologists
My step son caught this and caged it. Anybody know what it is?
Released now but have I let a rare species off the perch?
Photo not good as mobile used and a gale was blowing (shortly to be followed by a massive downpour thank Bhudda)

Re: Ornithologists
As you said, the photo is not too clear, but looks like some kind of owl...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes, catch it again quick Richard. They are worth £50,000 on the black market.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Re: Ornithologists
Horrifies me to see the Thais with so many small caged birds either for sale at temples or for sing songs. Hideous practice. I would rather see the perpetrators/procurers caged! AND LOS not the only country to do this either! Watched a TV program set in Indonesia where they were catching Palm cockatoos, Bird of Paradise, Cassowary ( big bast_rd) and shipping them to Malaysia through to S'pore - well known bird fanciers as we all know and onwards to Europe, Mid East and US.

Re: Ornithologists
Someone arrested last month here in Los Angeles. I believe he was from Malaysia and had 11 baby birds strapped to his body.
I know how I feel packed into economy on the flight to Thailand, poor birds!!
Someone should strap the smuggler, and his bosses, to the outside of a 747 bound back to Malaysia.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Re: Ornithologists
A Thai chap just down from me breeds small birds in cages. They never look too happy. My wife says he gets about 7,000THB per bird.charlesh wrote:Horrifies me to see the Thais with so many small caged birds either for sale at temples or for sing songs. Hideous practice. Definitely not very humane. And, he puts his minature dogs in the the cages to dry off after washing them. They sit, without being able to turn around, for about an hour in direct sunlight.
The Thai neighbours think he's a good man because he dosn't drink alcohol. And he loves his dogs - yeah, sure

Re: Ornithologists
Yes lomuamart the same hypocrisy that Thais feel comfortable with dumping cats and dogs at temples or in the bush, not caring for their animals (with few exceptions) including bathing and delousing, and perhaps on one of the "Buddha" days not eating meat because it is sinful! But they are not alone as when I was in a small town in East Malaysia and observed a number of bush animals caged in horrendous conditions. I reported it to the WWF and did not even receive a courtesy response!

Re: Ornithologists
Probably like the two that are nesting for the third year running in one of our hanging baskets.poosmate wrote:What does a happy bird look like?( feathered )
We don't interfere with them, they don't with us and they "seem" perfectly happy to be within a few yards of us when we're sitting outside. They come and they go etc etc.
Mind you, I havn't been too close to the caged birds as the Thai chap might think I was trying to steal them. Maybe they are happy also and I was being unjust?

But if they had been worth £50k, you would be in the sh+t from your missus, for letting it go in the first place.

Same as the human ones with skin. They both have a Baht 1000 note in their mouths.poosmate wrote:What does a happy bird look like?( feathered )
