Its a funny old game, I took about six weeks off as it was doing my head in ... played DB today, which was sand and hard concrete without a blade of grass to be seen, and managed to finally break 50.
Needless to say I can't wait to play again (where I'll probably return to my usual standard).

I could do no other than assume you were referring to your own golfing ability - I thought that I would offer you a few words of encouragement.Absolute rubbish !!

Yeah, well done. The sub 50 round has been a long time coming but I'm sure it was worth it in the end.buksida wrote:Its a funny old game, I took about six weeks off as it was doing my head in ... played DB today, which was sand and hard concrete without a blade of grass to be seen, and managed to finally break 50.![]()

BTW, as I wasn't in your group today, do you have any reliable witnesses? You know, just as you wanted a witness for my hole in one last year.

Only joking, the trick is to do it again and again and......

Is PET short for petulant?
Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
Playing with a bunch of caddies from Banyan and Majestic probably helped a lot! They also confirmed the 1,500 baht deal for round, cart and caddie at Banyan after 2pm.lomuamart wrote: BTW, as I wasn't in your group today, do you have any reliable witnesses?

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
Well, I couldn't believe it, I had the best nine holes I've had in Thailand today as well as the best nine anywhere since I was in my twenties (a long, long, time ago). The best nine hole score I've ever had anywhere is 41 and I've had a couple of 42s in my life, but today at the no grass all cement hard ground Dolphin Bay I shot a 43, which is at least 8 strokes better than any previous round there and in the hottest weather I've ever played in in my life. I actually had three pars out of nine holes and nothing over a 6 on any hole. This may not seem like much but anyone here who has ever played a round with me will be amazed!

Well done, hhf. Sounds like 'much' to me. What made the difference and can you incorporate it into future rounds?
Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
As usual with golf, I have no clue, just good luck that everything came together I guess. I haven't played in over a month so maybe the break was good for me. The difference in score was that I usually have at least one or two 8's or 9's, only about 1 par in nine holes and a few lost ball penalties. Yesterday, my worst (3) holes were 6's and I had 3 pars, so I had no real disaster holes and (another first for me at Dolphin Bay) I played the entire nine with one ball, so no lost ball penalties! Anyone who has played DB will appreciate that as 6 out of 9 holes require a shot over water, and two more holes have water along the side at some point so there is only one "dry" hole.Well done, hhf. Sounds like 'much' to me. What made the difference and can you incorporate it into future rounds?
The last time I played there they were out of scorecards and I guess since this is a free course it's hard for them to afford such luxuries so I made a scorecard (using spreadsheet software, and one of their old ones I had at home and printed about a hundred copies to take to them yesterday as a meager donation. Maybe the round was due to good Karma for that small gesture.

Nice one hhf, sometimes taking a break makes all the difference, you come back and your head is (almost) clear of the hundred things you're trying to think about during your swing. My 49 at DB was the result of a few solid 6 irons into the green (or brown as it is there) from 160 yards or so and a par on the par 5 6th, couldn't putt for shit though!

Not true! (hcp 6)
If I hit a bad shot I say "Mai Pen Lai" and try to scramble for Par.
Its all in the mind. See golf as Fun and it will be..
actually my scoring got better due to this attitude.
Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
Black Mountain (literally) kicked my butt today! I started with an 8 on the number 1 par 4 after a four putt! Things went downhill from there for a while with a 9 on another hole, but I managed to pull out a par and a few bogeys on the front nine to end up with 52. Not good enough! My goal is always to break 50 on any nine and to break 100 on eighteen, well, I did but I only played 12 and a half. On number 12 my ball went into longish very wet rough and after taking a mighty swing to get it onto the green the ball went 3 yards and my back went out. After finishing that hole and the drive and a couple of shanks on 13, I walked the rest of the course with my playing partners but was unable to swing because of a muscle in my back that was warning me on every downswing that sharp pain was coming when the club made contact. As usual with golf, I have no clue,
The course was in immaculate condition with greens as fast (in my experience) as the ones in Augusta at the Masters appear to be! I enjoyed the game (the part I got through) and enjoyed the walking and beer drinking from hole 13 onward.
One warning, for people on the wrong side of 60 and the wrong side of too many beers, imo this course is worth the extra 600 baht for a cart... many steep hills.
All in all it was still a fun day out with friends and the 1500 baht green fee being currently offered there made the back strain on the back nine more bearable!

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
Do any of the other golf courses (Palm Hills, Majestic, Sf) offer deals at this time of year? Would love to play more but 80-100 bucks a round at the top courses makes things a little thinkable.
