Heavy Metal IS Educational

Post by sandman67 »

Readers and HHADres know that I am a fan of Heavy Metal, i like history and especially Roman history, and Im not a fan of religion.

However, I may have proved that Metal is both educational AND truly the devils work....

See Im a fan of Pantera, and whilst looking up some obscure nonsense on an album they released came across this rather interesting entry on Wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiberius_I ... es_Pantera

so off I set, reading and following links....how odd thikns I that I didnt ever learn about this bloke at school... ah yeah I went to a catholic school.....

so

which of these do you find a more credible scenario:

A) Sometime in 1BC God, divine creator of the whole universe, decides to send his son down to earth. Ignoring the recognised centres of academia and philosophy like Rome, Athens, Alexandria and Corinth he instead chooses some woman in a backwater village in a dustbowl scrabby provincial backwater to impregnate. In a fanfare of trumpets and cherubim said divinity does the dirty, and then allows his representative on earth to be born in a stable...

OR

B) A pissed off battle hardened Roman legionary, after a very dirty bloody supression campaign in Nazereth during 3 to 1 BC, gets pissed and rapes a local girl. Local girl, now shamed and traumatised, makes up a pack of claptrap about immaculate conception. Her son, being illigitimate rape child of the Roman opressor is marked an outcast, and as a result rebels against the established Judaeic order with a pack of similarly motivated neer do wells. This morphs into a quasi-religious revolution that is soon stamped out. 30 years after his execution, the first Flavian emperor
Vespasian, fresh from his conquests in Judea sees an opportunity to destabalise the Hebraic priesthood who are behind the rebels. He and his son (and later emperor) Tiberius use their pet judas goat Jewish family historian (and ex Siccarri rebel leader) Josephus to set the cat amongst the pidgeons. 250 years later Constantine finishes the job...hey presto The Catholic Church.

eeerm Im voting B

now back to the metal

MANDY: Oh.

OFFICER: Good afternoon.

MANDY: Oh, ah. Hello, officer. Ehh. I'll be with you in a few moments. All right, dear?

BRIAN: What's he doing here?

MANDY: Now, don't start that Brian, and go and clean your room out.

BRIAN: Bloody Romans.

MANDY: Now, look, Brian. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have all this, and don't you forget it.

BRIAN: We don't owe the Romans anything, Mum.

MANDY: Well, that's not entirely true, is it Brian?

BRIAN: What do you mean?

MANDY: Well, you know you were asking me about your, uh...

BRIAN: My nose?

MANDY: Yes. Well, there's a reason it's... like it is, Brian.

BRIAN: What is it?

MANDY: Well, I suppose I should have told you a long time ago, but...

BRIAN: What?

MANDY: Well, Brian,... your father isn't Mr. Cohen.

BRIAN: I never thought he was.

MANDY: Now, none of your cheek! He was a Roman, Brian. He was a centurion in the Roman army.

BRIAN: You mean... you were raped?

MANDY: Well, at first, yes.

BRIAN: Who was it?

MANDY: Heh. Nortius Maximus his name was. Hmm. Promised me the known world he did. I was to be taken to Rome, House by the Forum. Slaves. Asses' milk. As much gold as I could eat. Then, he, having his way with me had... voom! Like a rat out of an aqueduct.

BRIAN: The bastard!

MANDY: Yeah. So, next time you go on about the 'bloody Romans', don't forget you're one of them.

BRIAN: I'm not a Roman, Mum, and I never will be! I'm a Kike! A Yid! A Hebe! A Hook-nose! I'm Kosher, Mum! I'm a Red Sea Pedestrian, and proud of it!

slam

MANDY: Huh. Sex, sex, sex. That's all they think about, huh? Well, how are you, then, officer?

aha!

Point B has been reinforced by Steves post - so thats why the Church got all offended at the Life of Brian.

They thought it was a sly reference to Yehu Ben Pantera eh?

SM67 :D

I watched every one of them lovely boy.

The trouble is, I was brought up listening to the classics, so never really got the ear for rock music.

Sad, I know but I don't think it affected me tooooo much. Wibble.

I only started head banging when I married a Thai girl. :banghead:
