Seriously though, how many of you who were avant readers of the Observer are now not accessing it online?

The thought struck me the other day when someone posted about HH publications and I remember the days when I always carried a copy on me when venturing to the beach or a bar.

I guess cost was a driving factor but for the expat who wants a light read whilst ogling the crumpet on the beach there is now little to choose from except AWOL and HHT

The articles from Mags and even my own were light reading and good humoured consumption

Buggered if I'm going to lug my laptop to the beach

What do you guys/gals think?

I suppose the costs were covered by all those glossy property ads. but now nobody is buying houses much, perhaps the money is drying up a bit.

As I understand it print costs were a main factor - as well as the perceived potential for a much larger online audience.
I agree with you Richard. The idea of a magazine is that you can carry it around and browse at your leisure. Although I find the 'flip viewer' easy to use, I don't read the thing cover to cover as I did when it could be picked up and put down again much more easily.
My main concern though is that tourists who would once take a copy home to share with friends etc are now very unlikely to even know it exists.
