Football World Cup 2010
Re: Football World Cup 2010
Well, lets get it out the way.
That was a game we could have won, should have won and deserved to win.
Lets start with Mr. Capello. Milner clearly wasn't fit and lasted, what - 30 minutes. Dumb selection.
Ledley King. Never fit, never in the England equation because of it. Lasted one half (just). Just dumb he was even on the plane.
Green - goalkeeper. Useless twat. The game was in control and he did his thing. Bye. Bad choice Mr. Capello.
Lennon. Amazes me he gets in Spurs side let alone Englands. Waste of space.
Carragher. Useless scouse git who turned his back on England and should have been left there. Isn't he Irish? I wish he was.
Rooney? Passenger. We were better in the 2nd half when Lamps was allowed to do his thing, though he was far from at his best.
We'll get better as we always do, but fit players only. Wright Phillips on the right and Joe Cole on the left please, if needed. Barry, if fit, in the middle. Upson to partner Terry if King unfit. Let Ashley Cole get forward.
Can I do the Managers job?

Not a bad summary - a megga let down against a team like the USA. However, an improvement on the last time they met in the competition
. It can only get better.

Re: Football World Cup 2010
Another lacklustre performance from a team that promised so much. Lets be honest we played like a big smelly pile of poop.
If we cant eek out a win against the states then we aint going any further in this tournament and quite frankly neither should we.
After the usa scored I turned over and watched 'Grand Designs' Which was a cracking programme with a much happier outcome.
We will probably scrape through the group stages and then loose to Brazil.
As far as i'm concerned for England the game was a massive embarrasment. Our opponents must be laughing at the thought of playing us...

Not sure we saw the same game, caller.
Other than the last 15 mins when we seemed to step up a gear, I thought we were terrible. The Americans harried us off the ball all the time and we just never settled. Passes were going astray, we had nothing up front and seemed to be consistently beaten in the air in defence. If we play like that against an on-form side who can finish, we'll get hammered.
Wouldn't disagree with your line up changes and BB's observation that we'll probably get better - I hope.
Still, we shouldn't take anything away from the USA. They came with a game plan, stuck to it and by and large it worked.

Re: Football World Cup 2010
Before every major tournament, whether it is World Cup or Europe Cup, the English supporters always seem to assume England would end up as Champions. Although England usually have good teams they are nearly ever that good. Having said that, I too taught England this time would reach at least the semi-final, but after watching the game I am not so sure anymore.
Best performance thus far is by the South Koreans.

Unthinkable?
The "dream" is on in the USA after the 1-1 tie with England, they even are talking about England not making it to the second round! Unthinkable?

At least Capello could win the Oscar as "best acting coach", but Maradona is a tough competitor.

Just remember, it's a league - 2 more games to go. Historically, just look at how the likes of Italy usually start, and then look at the powerhouses that they are when they finish.
Incidentally, I've often criticised Scottish goalkeepers to my Scottish friends over the years. My e-mail inbox has been filled with e-mails from these friends? in the last 12 hours

1966, first match England 0 Uruguay 0. So there is a precedent. Seems to me England have good players unable to provide a good team. Why two wingers were allowed to cut inside and lose the ball, (wasn`t Walcott left behind for this) when they should have crossed from the bye line to the head of Crouch, custom built for the job. Things can only get better, can`t they?

At last, a Prime Minister prepared to take on the lefty, hand-wringing, Town Hall PC brigade. He has ordered the flag of St.George to be flown above 10 Downing Street. Good for him.
Re: Football World Cup 2010
So have many local councils actually! We even have them in our (bit of a large) open plan office. In fact where I work, we always fly the flag of St. George, the Union Flag and a flag of the boroughs 'coat of arms'.Arcadian wrote:At last, a Prime Minister prepared to take on the lefty, hand-wringing, Town Hall PC brigade. The private company (May Gurney) that runs the bin wagons, have however, banned them from their vehicles nationally on health and safety grounds?

Re: Football World Cup 2010
Well, just remember guys, many of the USA players play in the PL and know the English side fairly well. I used to be a professional goalie (last played for the New York Arrows) and I was sad to see to terrible headlines and articles about Rob Green. He made one mistake all game, and while it's unfortunate that lead to a goal, all of the other 10 players made more than one mistake during that game. Life of a goalie.lomuamart wrote:Still, we shouldn't take anything away from the USA. They came with a game plan, stuck to it and by and large it worked.

Here's a quirky look at the business side of the event, by the sounds of it FIFA are a bunch of fascists:

Today's first game should be good, I'm backing the Dutch.

At last we have the current score being shown on the TV during the game. Was getting really pissed off not knowing what the score was if I joined late or pooped out of the room for a while.
