Thailand to Make Offer to Buy Thaicom From Temasek
Thailand’s government plans to offer to buy Temasek Holdings Pte’s stake in satellite monopoly Thaicom Pcl for national security reasons after protesters used its signal to rally support for anti-government demonstrations.
“It’s our policy to buy back the satellite unit from Thaicom,” Sirichoke Sopha, a lawmaker in Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s Democrat party, said today by phone. “There is no formal offer yet. It’s just really a starting of negotiations.”
The purchase would end a dispute over the satellite’s ownership that began when Singapore’s state-owned investment company bought Shin Corp. from the family of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in 2006. The sale triggered protests that led to Thaksin’s overthrow in a coup later that year.

Yet another way to use Thaksin's forfeited 45 billion Baht.

It would be so ironic if they used it to buy back the thing that landed him in all this mess in the first place.

What is even more ironic is that the share price is going up so much on the news that Shin could cash in by selling the percentage that they still own.

Well, apparently the Thai govenment is not familiar with the method of expropriation, i.e. the government forcefully taking possession of something, supposedly for the common good....Also known as official steeling....

It would be very difficult to expropriate the satellite as it is orbiting earth.Lung Per wrote:Well, apparently the Thai govenment is not familiar with the method of expropriation, i.e. the government forcefully taking possession of something, supposedly for the common good....Also known as official steeling....

Here we go with the crap again, and allegedly from the 'clean' side.
Put the country into moral receivership for it's own good, and that of future generations.
