chickens
Re: chickens
It`s not just the skin that is black, the flesh and bones are also. YUK!
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: chickens
This part of Pete's article above says it all really:
The black meat of a Silkie is generally considered an unusual or unpalatable attribute in European and American cuisines.
It's also occurred to me that those Silkie chickens look pretty rare and I wonder if unscrupulous traders produce copy ones by dying normal chickens black!

Re: chickens
Well, it just goes to show you're never too old to learn. I've heard about this breed of chicken as it's a very common breed, but I had now idea the skin was black. Just as well I never got any myself because I would have been shocked to see black skin and black meat at slaughtering time. There's just something about it that puts me, especially now that I know the meat is also black.
As the article says, many keep them simply for their broodiness.
Thanks for the learning experience guys

Actually Takiap they taste just like um ......... Chicken.Takiap wrote:lol.............I honestly have never seen black or blackish chicken meat. One thing is for sure........there's no way I would eat it or even try it, just as I wouldn't put one of those 100 year eggs anywhere near my mouth. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to eating food. Just give me a plain old chunk of meat on the BBQ and I'm happy. Anyway, I'm curious now about the black chicken so I'll certainly look out for it, but like I said, I won't be eating it.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
