Losing Passwords
Losing Passwords
Just lately, I've been losing all my automatic passwords for various things like HHAD login, online banking, email addresses etc whenever I turn the computer off.
It's no big thing, but I'm wondering why this might be. Once I enter the details again, I always check the boxes that allow automatic entry to sites.
Can anyone explain why this is happening?

Re: Losing Passwords
Start Firefox:
Open the Toolbox on the top line,
go down to "Settings",
Go to "Security"
Check if you have marked "Remember Passwords on Websites".
Here you can also see all your stored passwords.

Re: Losing Passwords
Thanks for that, NM, but the "Remember Passwords" is checked.
Re: Losing Passwords
Might be a good idea to write them down (in code) and keep somewhere very safe

Re: Losing Passwords
Have you run any scans recently (such as CCleaner) or changed anything? Lost passwords are usually internet security settings related, as Norseman said they're all stored in Firefox and you can actually view them by clicking Tools > Options > Security > Saved Passwords > Show Passwords.

Re: Losing Passwords
Strange.
I've looked at that, buks and most of my user names and passwords are showing - with the exception of internet banking which isn't surprising.
I havn't run any scans of any sort for quite a while. Sometimes my HHAD username and password gets me in automatically in the mornings but lately it dosn't half the time.
Another weird one this morning was that my history over the past 3 months of doing the BKK Post daily crossword has vanished. It used to give details of how many I'd completed, best times etc and dosn't need any user name or password to enter it. I was back to my "first crossword attempt".
Also, some that I havn't used for ages are still there - ie IKTS from last season.
mr lonely, I do that already and know my log in details and passwords by memory anyway - there aren't many of them.

Strange things can happen to browsers when the cache gets full. It shouldn't shed passwords, but it can.
I use RoboForm to store my passwords.

Re: Losing Passwords
I get the lack of auto-complete issue with stuff rom time to time too - problem is it just doesnts eem consistent. When I check the pass file the details are there so its as though the auto-complete "trigger" fails.... maybe its a FF bug?? Try looking at the Mozilla forum and see is theres owt there.
On a security note be aware there are a sod load of trojans being whizzed about at the mo. Particularly an issue with Chinese and Russian hosted domains. MP3 FLV and MP4 files seem to be the favoured carriers at the mo, although some Ive hit have been implants in page coding. I also came across a page that tried to drop a keylogger...so make sure pass files are properly encrypted

Re: Losing Passwords
What browser are you using? I've had this problem with Firefox v3.5 / v3.6 a few times. I changed over to Google Chrome last month because it is more secure and faster - no problems with passwords yet.lomuamart wrote:Just lately, I've been losing all my automatic passwords for various things like HHAD login, online banking, email addresses etc whenever I turn the computer off.

As an extra precaution I always do a full in-depth Anti-Virus and Spy-ware scan every day, as Sandman67 says:.

It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.
Re: Losing Passwords
I use Firefox.
The same thing happened overnight after I switched the computer off and restarted this morning. There was no automatic log in for HHAD and my user names were not saved for my email addresses. My internet banking had to be started from scratch - I always save my surname and membership number - the rest can't be saved.
As I originally said, it's not a major problem as I know the few missing things by memory anyway and it only takes a few seconds longer to log onto sites. I just can't understand why the missing details are not being saved. They always were before.
Will run a full virus scan while the football's on. It's up-to-date.

Re: Losing Passwords
I've just had a thought. I recently upgraded my Avast antivirus as I was being told that the old one was becoming obsolete. Can't be sure, but these problems have been occuring since around that time.

I don't trust all this newfangled machinery so I keep a manual (coded in binary) hard copy.
