Eating out south of Hua Hin

Post by Arcan »

We are staying outside HH, and normally follow the "main tourist road" when going to town for dinner. Any good suggestions in the countryside south of Hua Hin?

Suanson (sea pine restaurant) good quality Thai food at good price and cold beer with nice outlook to the sea. Found on E side of road heading down towards Kao Tao. When you get to the intersection (T) with a PTT petrol stn turn left go through manned check point (army controlled) get to T over railway line and turn R. Rest is at bottom of hotel complex. Almost deserted during week not so on w/e when Banga people often descend.
Limited menu however

How far south do you want to go? Turn off Petchkasem Road (well signed about 2 kms after the Kao Tao turn) and carry on about 8kms down to Pak Nam Pran beach and there are some good inexpensive restaurants. Going south along the beach road - Mr Singh's Beach Bar & Restaurant, the Evason (5 star resort & spa so expensive!), Ban Had Pran, Thai House, the Very Good (excellent quality and prices, good staff - we eat there at least once per week) and the 'Much Better' (a little family rivalry between the last 2). Further along the beach road towards Kao Kalok there are more restaurants & resorts that are well worth a visit.

Like Charlesh says below about the Suanson these are reasonably quiet weekdays but busier when the Bngkokians are down at weekends.

Great for an afternoon out followed by a drink or 5 and meal.

^ Yes, there is a guesthouse (or small hotel) on that road just south of the Evason that has a little open air restaurant right across the street from the ocean that we go to frequently. It has great Thai seafood at very low prices. I don't remember the name but I'm sure it's one of the one's you mentioned.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thank you all. We will try the suggested restaurants/areas. Some are not far from our house. We expected not further south than Pranburi. Therefore, this is perfect!
