Holiday travel insurance

Post by kendo »

We are planning our next trip out to Thailand eather November or January depending on work and funds.

After the political unrest and troubles it has been widely reported that companys won't cover travel and holidays to Los, or some might but you will pay a over priced premiums etc....

So my qestion is where can I buy insurance in Hua Hin and a contact number to get a quote and does anyone have any experience of this many thanks....

Just make sure you take out a policy.

My brother has just spent 5 weeks in San Remo hospital and is currently being flown back to Perth in an air ambulance.

Costs. Astronomical.

What happened to him, it's very important one of my friends died a few months back from a leg injury his insurance had only run out by one week and time his parents arranged to fly him home he did not make it.

Hi Kendo,

That's strange. I thought all European insurance companies issued travel policies to Thailand again. Anyhow, we can arrange a travel insurance from here, but if you have the chance to do it in your home country, do that. The coverages are in general much higher with European insurance companies.
If not, please feel free to contact us.

He developed GBS very suddenly and was immediately parallised.

The care in San Remo hospital was substandard and he developed bed sores as well as chest infections and other complications which delayed his evacuation.

Ozuncle,
My best wishes to you and your family and I hope your brother gets well.

Mat,
Thanks for your reply I have not checked with U.k insurance companys yet but was just going through a few thoughts on my night shift.
Qestion as the political climate can change quickly in Thailand as the last demo proved, if I purchased insurance in Thailand would it be honered if it kicked off because the U.k firms where pretty bloody quick to withdraw cover.
Also is there restrictions on taking out a family policy that me and my wife can have but step sons live in Thailand but will be holidaying in Hua Hin and another location,I am sure U.k companys would not like that sinario.

Kendo.
I was presuming you are from the UK, but maybe i was wrong??? I'm not an expert on the UK firms. Can tell you that the Dutch firms stopped coverage at the time of the negative travel advice for those that still had to fly to Thailand, but those allready here kept full coverage.
If your step sons are related (and they are if they are your wife's sons and you and her are married for the law) i don't see a reason why you could not have a family plan. Don't have to start from the same place and we are talking about an inbound insurance, so also okay for Thai on a holiday in Thailand. But if needed (as i wrote before, look in your homecountry first because of the higher coverage) send me a pm with all the details and i will check to be sure what is and what's not covered

KENDO. I had an accident in Thailand at Xmas-time. The UK-based Insurance Co. I was with were crap!
My dear Thai wife had to do so,so much just to please them, WE delt with the hospital, embassy,& airline to get me home, they did next to nothing but demand proof. Further more this company does not tell you when you take out a 90 day policy..if you stay in 1 country for that duration you are only covered medically for the 1st 19 days..!
(My accident was on day 17)
They advertise in every UK Sunday travel-section,please do not use them
DIRECT TRAVEL INSURANCE of SHOREHAM ON SEA.
When I come back to HH I will be taking out medical-cover in Huahin on top of any travel policy I have
If you do opt to use a UK based company, many people rate 'Hastings 1066' for their great service to customers in thailand when needed.
