Stayed 5 nights at the Hyatt in early June (the week before the Jazz festival). My GF & I had a great time. Definitely book the Regency Club if you can manage it. The private pool and lounge area is great at the end of the day. I am a big fan of the hotel pool and less of a fan of the beach. We spent much more time at the pool. The waterslide is great for kids (big and small!!). The thing about the beach in Hua Hin is that you don't have that crystal clear water as you do with other Thai beaches. Also the horses on the beach don't do it for me. My girl and I had several nice evening walks on the beach, but only swam in the water one time. They had jellyfish warning signs up, but I didn't have any problems with jellyfish.

All in all a fantastic mini-vacation away from BKK and I would definitely stay at the Hyatt again. I can't really campare it on the basis of value since I stayed for free (using my Hyatt Gold Passport points).

Hope this helps.

Thank you Golfman
I've booked the summer sensation vacation package incl. thai set dinner at SalaThai Restaurant.
Did you see any stalls right on the beach in order to have a sunset dinner?
Did you have the breakfast at the hotel? If yes what do you think?
Are all the swimming pools used to swim?Coz they said they are interconnecting pools but in the photo looks like very small.
Cheers

No idea about the Hyatt, but the Hilton is actually very nice, with excellent pools and access to the beach if needed. The breakfast is superb, and for variety/economy, there are plently little restaurants on the beach if you're happy sitting on deck chairs. I'm told the Sofitel is also nice but I don't have first-hand experience of it, unlike the Hilton which I genuinely enjoyed. 8)

Isabella,

I will clarify a few things.

As I mentioned we were in the Regency Club, which is a small area set aside from the main hotel. The RC provides free breakfast & evening cocktails next to the pool. The RC pool is fairly small but there were never more than 10 people there since its limited access. We never tried the main restaurant where they have the buffet breakfast.

The main pool is quite large & nice and has 3 main features. A large central swimming area, a "river" pool (i.e. a section of the pool is layed out like a river that winds through the grounds - very nice for just floating around) and a waterslide area w/ a slide approx 10m high. Very fun.

The one drawback that many people cite regarding the Hyatt is that it is outside of town -as opposed to say the Hilton where you can walk to everything. The Hyatt has a shuttle that runs hourly that they charge 50 bt per person. Taxis are pretty fixed at 100 bt from HH to the Hyatt.

They definitely have outdoor dining but I never saw any table set up on the beach - just on the lawn of the hotel that overlooks the beach. We only ate 1 meal at the hotel since it was pretty expensive (600-800 bt per person) versus going into HH town where you can eat for 100-250 bt per person.

My opinion is the Hyatt is perfect for families or couples looking for a nice quiet time. If you are the party type who likes to be "near the action" probably the Hilton or the Sofitel is better.

Isabella, sorry for not replying to your PM, but I haven't looked at this board much lately. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency three nights this time in May after first staying last November.

Golfman covers many aspects of the hotel and I agree with him on the beach, a great place for a walk but the horses and stray dogs are a turnoff. Both times I was there the water was murky but that could have just been seasonal.

I joined the Hyatt Goldpass program and got a 'special' midweek rate of 3500 ++ without breakfast. I'm no huge brekfast eater anyhow and settled for fresh fruit from the market and lime juice most days.

The river pool is great and offers plenty of privacy. Food's fine but not cheap.

The only problem we had here was when we checked in I told them I might stay an extra day.

'No problem' was the reply, but the night before we were scheduled to leave I was told they were now full on Saturday. I asked them to see what they could do and the next morning was told they did have a room but it would cost 5500 ++, and was smaller. No thanks.

Quickly booked the Hilton on-line but when we got there they said it was only a 'day room'. So the Hilton booked us into the Marriott. In the mean time we went for lunch at the Sofitel. Busy day!

My feelings on the big name hotels:

Hyatt Regency
Pros: Modern, large grounds, privacy, plenty of greenery
Cons: Distance from downtown

Hilton
Pros: Prime location, balconies looking over the ocean, home to the Hua Hin brewery!
Cons: Bit crowded, too much concrete.

Sofitel
Pros: Great location, vast grounds, Colonial style, superb meat pies by the pool!
Cons: A bit formal, lacks atmosphere

Marriott
Pros: Lively Acapulco feel, cheaper than the above three, deep pool
Cons: Small rooms (Holiday Inn style), too crowded

My preference is for the Hyatt or Hilton.

Thanks for you reply and agree with you.
Personally didn't like Sofitel lack of atmosphere as you said.
I've posted a review about this two hotels.
HYatt defint. the best between Hyatt, Hilton and Sofitel.
LOcation would prefer Hilton than Sofitel.
