Russian pianist arrested for rape in Thailand

Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev on Thai rape charges

BBC News, Bangkok

Police in the Thai resort town of Pattaya say they have charged a Russian musician with raping a boy after questioning him and searching his home.

Mikhail Pletnev, founder of the Russian National Orchestra, was then released on bail.

Mr Pletnev owns homes and businesses in Thailand and says it is all a misunderstanding.

The orchestra, where he is artistic director, is due to go on a European tour later this week.

A senior police officer told the BBC that Mr Pletnev had been charged with raping a boy and that photographs had been collected from his home.

Police are also checking on Mr Pletnev's other homes and businesses in Thailand, after a Thai tenant in one of his homes was arrested on suspicion of paedophilia.

I know he hasn't been convicted....yet. Well, skeletons in the closet, or what? If it's true then it just goes to show you can never tell who or where these freaks are. :|

No comment, yet, about the post SF. But......are you sure Martin said that in your signature, or Charlie Sheen. Seems to me it's more like a Charlie comment? :? Pete

Yeah, it was Martin, but a very long time ago when he was making 'Apocalypse Now' in the Philippines. I know he's 'seen the light' now and totally reformed/born again etc and it might seem like it wasn't him but when he was filming that film he was beyond loose cannon status, a boozy young film star in Asia with lots of recreational pastimes available, different place then as I'm sure you remember.

Oh my. :( The best President we've had since George Carlin. I may not vote for him next time, However, he could have been the co-star with Ms. Penny of Portsmouth North? If so, I'll vote for him. :thumb:

To keep the thread on track, look up Pattaya rags back issues and read about the new police chief they have there, combined with the new national head of Immigration. Heavy hitters and swear they'll rid Thailand of covert criminals and the like. This story is about number 6 over the past quarter where they've had results, and told everyone about them. Maybe Thailand is starting to get some righteous crime fighters? :? Pete

After further research Pete, there seems to be some conflict about whether it was Charlie or Martin, but it seems that there are some sites that think it was Charlie, so you could right, so in deference to you and some other US guys on the web and other forums I have changed it to Charlie as it could be right, but, as they say, "It's in the family."

Sorry to go way off topic mods but had to clear this up.

Boy.... Rape....Pattaya, ''Artist'', sorry musician.... NEVER - Don't believe it!!

What's the common denominator with regards to these stories? The destination, Pattaya/Phuket/Bangkok? The perverted foreign tw@ts, simply the media exaggerating a problem..... Or all of the above?

Where did that come from Pharvey? Image

We did go off topic but quite a release there man, not a bad rant to be honest. We were just talking about signature quotes and possibilities of such said quotes that had been posted and the reality of said forwarded utterances. Nothing to do with topic subject matter, I admit it's off topic, but I did specify that.

I suppose the rest falls into this section...........Image
Or.....

Suppose we all feel like this...........Image, me included, I'm no shinning example, for sure.

Don't think that pharvey was aiming anything at anyone. Just trying to get the posts back on topic, despite apologies that some were off track.
No harm in that, eh?

Hands up Mr L, you are, as usual, correct, just speculatively funning around with a bit of inquisitive banter mixed into the formula that was in the evidence presented, and as I'm not telepathic, just speculated wildly.

I would never claim to be a party to a definitive response on anything, which, in this case, I didn't give, just playful engagement, wasn't trying to appear dismissive or arrogant.

Did leave it open and went to lengths to point out that that was what I was doing.

Sorry if any linguistic 'slight of hand/misdirection' was in evidence or perceived as such, not the intent.

However, you are right, sorry if it appeared confusingly combative, not the design or intention.

Russian suspected child-abuse pianist back in Thailand

Moscow - A Russian pianist charged with raping a 14-year-old boy in Thailand returned to the South-East Asian country on Saturday, his spokeswoman said.

Mikhail Pletnev flew back from Moscow, where he was allowed to return on July 8 for a concert after promising Thai authorities he would come back to resolve matters.

The 53-year-old concert pianist denied the charges against him, Pletnev's spokeswoman Svetlana Shaplygina told the Russian news agency Interfax.//DPA

Fairly accurate Spitfire... Oh bugger....

Have just returned to this post....... not actually remembering I'd visited previously!!

Apologies to all if any offence was caused - as I've mentioned before, I do tend to leap on the soapbox after sampling the local jungle juice..... Generally to talk/write absolute and unrelated cr@p before falling off and going to sleep...... waking to a VERY unsympathetic wife of course.

This guy is no tourist. He owns businesses here, besides his international musical career. Wouldn't be the first time a rich/famous guy has been set up. We'll have to wait and see and if it is some kind of scam, I wonder if the papers will report on it so enthusiastically? Pete

Would the bank accounts there be frozen if he didn't return.. or/and convicted? Companies closed down?
