1,600 pounds of ivory seized in Thailand

More than 1,600 pounds of illicit ivory has been seized in Thailand after the elephant tusks were smuggled from Africa in pallets labelled as plywood furniture or notepads.

The only way to counter this sort of thing is to give game rangers permission to shoot on site if they come across any poachers. It seems to have worked back home where I come from. If a poacher is armed, as they always are, rangers can open fire on them.

This type of thing really makes my blood boil, because these buggers have already destroyed all their own wildlife, so now they're trying to do the same elsewhere.

Saying that, I'm also against rich tourists paying big money for the chance to hunt animals such as a lion for example. I know the game farms that offer such activities are carefully managed, but it beats me why anyone would want to hunt an animal for which you have no use, apart from hanging it's pelt on your wall. :banghead:
