Gym recommendation?

So what is going on around here and where does it happen? This section is for discussion on local events, festivals, and holidays as well as activities and things to do.

Gym recommendation?

Post by mabubba »

Can someone recommend a gym in HH? I am planning to visit later this year and would like to be able to keep my workout routine. I was hoping for a place that has free weights and allows short-term memberships(i.e. monthly).

Thanks,

J.

I don't know the membership or equipment details, but I know of 4 gyms that you can check out. There is one at the Hilton that has mostly machines but a set of dumbbells and a bench; one on Soi 94 (have friends that go there but not sure what they have, probably mostly machines again); a newer one in Market Village Mall that also has mostly machines but I know a lot of people who have changed to this gym and like it; finally, if you are serious, don't need air condition and really want free weights there is the Grand Plaza Gym where some serious lifters I've known have been members (also has muay Thai boxing classes).

All of this is second hand information from friends except the Hilton. I was a member there for two years. I've also taken a look at the new Market Village Mall gym and it looks good. It has machines and (in a different area) all kinds of classes like spin, aerobic, zoomba, etc.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I've worked out at both the Hilton and Market Village not too much weight machines at either place. I was staying at Hilton for a couple of days so don't know what charges were or if you could pay on a daily basis. At Market Village there are lots of options from daily, weekly to monthly charges, actually they had a promotion recently.

There is another fitness centre at the Palm Hills golf course but a bit of a way out of town. 1000 Baht (when I enquired about 12 months ago) per month for membership but there are daily rates (100 Baht??) for each of the various facilities (gym/ sauna/ tennis court/ squash/ pool).

Sports Villa (towards Kao Takiab) also has a fitness centre with small daily rates for each of fitness and pool. I was not overly impressed there the one time I went about 18 months but may well have upgraded since then.

If you jog between each of the 6 or so places mentioned then you won't need to pay any fees!

Hi All,

Thanks for the information. I am sure I can make do with one of the suggestions. I don't need massive weights to work out with, but the hardcore no-air place sounds interesting. I have been warned about the humidity and heat, but I see it as a challenge. And it does seem possible to be able to avoid it by going early or later in the day.
