Official drinking water price

Post by poosmate »

after 16 August, any vendor caught selling bottled water over 7 THB each will be subject to a prison term of up to 7-year, or a fine of up to140,000 THB; or both.

Will this set price be for Bars and other retailers?
I know that in most restaurants that it is more expensive. Even Tesco food hall is I believe 10 Baht for a small bottle ( 500 cc/).
Who will be the water police!

Jeeze, at that price, half of Thailand will be in for 7 year holidays.

It will never happen. :neener:
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

"The ministry’s official price lists for bottled water will later be announced to the shopping malls, restaurants, and food shops requiring them to keep the water prices in line with the limit set. Meanwhile, the Consumer Goods and Service Prices Committee will enforce stringent measures to curb the overpricing problem."

What does this actually mean - "keep water prices in line with the set limit"?
It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.

Herself has read the new Thai law and it is valid from today, with the fines mentioned above applying.

Although it would appear that restaurants and bars may be exempt to some extent, the crucial point here is that the new statute only applies to water in plastic (PET) bottles, whereas most catering establishments sell it in glass bottles.

However, it would appear to mean that food halls in shopping malls are covered and cannot sell plastic bottles of water for more than 7 baht.

Surely they (restaurants) are either exempt or not - Lakeview are still selling small plastic bottles at Bht15 ?

I have not seen water served to me in a glass bottle other than 5* hotels selling imported mineral water.

I have to agree Palm hills still 15 Baht. Pet if you venture to some of the lesser restaurants you will find both Singha and Chang water sold in returnable glass bottles :)

As I read it, the price restriction only applies to "primary" outlets, such as super markets. (both big and small) It does not apply to service providers, such as restaurants, street stalls etc.
