Where is the best place for order a swimming pool ?

Post by Johan »

Hello,

I want to order a swimming pool for my home, i've asked JD Pools and DesJoyeux, both quoted the same price, 800 000 for a 10x5.

I think it's expensive, i know some people on here have a swimming pool and i need advices. My wife think it's expensive too and i can understand her.

Thanks.

A cute video to watch while you're waiting for replies. I was hoping he would mention some prices in it but he didn't. I've never seen a rule of thumb on pricing given in terms of square or cubic meter.

I don't think your mentioned price is too bad in general for anywhere in Thailand. 3 years ago ours was about 735 for the same size, 1 to 1.6 meter deep. Be careful though of the machinery and filter equipment included in the price. They will try to give you the cheapest possible and better to spend a bit more in the beginning for quality rather than headaches later. Get a list with manufacturer names and models for all machinery and do some searches for reviews. Pete

As general guidance here are some prices from a company in Pattaya who probably builds more pools than anyone else there. They seem to be deeply discounting now that new construction housing is way down compared to the past. Click on the sections under "pool packages". Pete

pool companies will charge from 15,000 to 20,000 THB per sqm.

your pool works out at 16,000 per sqm.
so its the going rate.

smaller companies may do it for less.
as posted above make sure that you sort out the equipment before hand. as they will put in crap chinese copies if you do not.

bigger compaines are not always the best. you will get bad service from all of them :D :D

Not to sure just how any quotation can be in square metres? Is the calculation based on the tiled area, or, more likely, what the builder thinks he can squeeze out of the customer? Any quotation should be split up to show the cost of the actual pool, with several options provided offering the different types of filtration equipment.

A couple of things that really bother me with pools in Thailand are:

1. The complete lack of any security fence / barricade around a pool, including child proof locks on any access gate.
There are stringent laws in place in Australia regarding this, but despite that, every year several small children are drowned in private swimming pools.

2. Building a pool that is virtually level with the ground. The one in that video is a good example. They need to have some upset surrounding them to stop both flooding from rain and rubbish, such as leaves etc., from being blown into them.

It would be interesting to see some comments from people that have had pools built, regarding any warranties given by the builder. You may find that there are similar stories as reported about housing developers! From what I have seen, most warranties only cover the actual structure, and there has been a recent post concerning chlorinators.

I think I've posted this pic before on the security thread Nereus. There's about a 6" rise all around and it works OK, except for leaves blowing off the trees. My problem is not flooding in, but flooding out during the rainstorms. I have to pump out every few days this time of year. If I don't the grass doesn't like the pool water at all. It's an overflow pool so I try to keep the 5,000 liter holding tank under the boards you see on the right only about half full.

The whole yard is fenced or walled with a thick hedge on the street sides of the fences. This deters kids so far. They also know a mean old farang lives here!

Warranty was two years on everything except the pump which was 1 year. All long past and no problems. I tore out the pump after 6 months as it sounded like a 747 taking off. I didn't do due diligence concerning machinery and got caught out. I replaced the pump with a Hayward super pump and it's as quiet as a whisper. I think it has a life of about 35,000 hours which equates to about 15 years running 6 a day. Let's hope. Pete

That looks good,Pete. I bought my house after it was built, although it was new and had not been lived in.
The pool was completely open to the back patio of the house, and at the time my Granddaughter was still crawling, but attracted to the water like the proverbial. The first thing that I did was have a stainless steel fence built around it with gates that she could not open. It was a battle to get somebody to understand what I wanted, and it would not pass muster in Australia, although it is safe enough.

They also had part of the lawn right up to one end of the pool, so the next job was to have that area paved. The edge has some upset and I do not have a flooding problem with it, but if I was to build a pool I would have the edge built higher.

The structure supposedly has a 10 year warranty, but I do not have that on paper. It already had Hayward pumps, but it is on it`s second electrode in the chlorinator, with a recently purchased spare on hand as the existing one has given problems after only 1 year. Some of the problem with the original electrode was Somchai topping up the pool with the then underground water supply in my absence. That problem has now been overcome as we now have government water supply.

Here we are again, no one has given any local tips concerning companies or contractors. Everyone wants more Hua Hin content, but few answer queries like this. I think best is to just say what you know even if second hand, it doesn't have to be gospel. The Op and others can make their own decisions and question comments.

At least in that way a dialogue is started. Pete

What seems so inconsistent is that although Burger King and other restaurants can be named as good or bad, swimming pool companies are not.
Are there also different rules for these services apart from the previously discussed Property Developers and Estate Agents etc

I think there is a misunderstanding here. The Forum has strict rules regarding self promotion, and naming of Real Estate companies; but if we restricted naming other companies, there would be very little point in having an 'Ask the Expats' section.

Like Burger King or a local pool company is even in the same stratosphere.

Why not just post the contact details on this thread then (assuming it's not self-promotion) as it would be more useful for other users who may refer to it later.
This would be more in keeping with what BigBoy and Pete have said.
