As most of you may be aware, here in Delhi, they are getting ready for the Commonwealth Games – starting early October.
As part of this exercise, Delhi has been turned into one bloody great construction site – as if it weren’t a bloody mess already – with the construction of the Stadia and the facilities plus the metros etc etc.
Part of this work has been the ‘street beautification’ with the ripping up of most of the pavements and the re-laying thereof.
To aid the ‘visibly challenged’, and very thoughtfully, the authorities have included in most locations, the laying of ‘Tactiles’ (I think the spelling is correct). You know them – the bright yellow paving tiles with ridges ‘embossed’ within the pattern, designed to assist those persons with limited visible capabilities.
Whilst out walking on Sunday I took the attached photo, which is just ONE of many examples that I have seen, demonstrating just how much thought, care and attention has been applied to the positioning of these tiles.
I am investing in ‘paracetemol’ and ‘bandage futures’
Cheers all

Spitfire et al
Not a hope in hell of being ready.
The Minister for Delhi - Mrs. Sheila Dickshit (Real name folks) - is assuring everybody that it will be a 'World Class' event.
The stadia that ARE ready, have lousy drainage and water ingression due to poor construction, so are flooded out due to the recent monsoon rains.
Athletes accommodation are miles behind.
Corruption has been rife and in the headlines every day.
Millions have been spent on an event that most locals couldn't give a left testicle about.......whilst the beggars are still on the streets
Speaking to a local last night and I was informed that Delhi is to close all schools, markets and some industry in the city to free up the traffic during the two week period - brilliant planning eh?

I've seen the same thing in the upper Sukhumvit area of Bangkok. Also seen painted bike lanes that run directly into poles or guy-wires.To aid the ‘visibly challenged’, and very thoughtfully, the authorities have included in most locations, the laying of ‘Tactiles’ (I think the spelling is correct). My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Very true - I've seen this too
BUT
Here in India, one is constantly being told that 'We are building a 'World Class' this and a 'World Class' that. The sheer level of arrogance, coupled with outright ignorance and corruption makes a mockery of it all.![banghead :banghead:](./images/smilies/icon_banghead.gif)

Trust me Thailand IS World Class compared to this s^*thole.Nereus wrote:You sure that`s India,Terry? Sounds very much like some other place around here, except it is usually the "hub"!
For example.
I wanted to get an MP3 converter to be able to play movies from the laptop on the TV in the hotel here. I'd got hold of some good old BBC downloads of 'Ello 'Ello stuff & similar - which is infinitely better than Bangla movies............
I saw an advert for the newest 'World Class' electronics outlet at a shopping mall not far from me.
Off I went in anticipation of visiting something better than Panthip or even 'Banana I.T.' in Market Village.
What do I find?
6 toasters, 4 laptops, two washing machines and a USB memory stick!!!!!!!
The 'World Class' retail assistant hadn't got a clue about what I wanted.
When I asked where the 'World Class' goods were he stated 'Right here sir'.........
'World Class' my arse I retorted - and walked out.
Trust me - the same applies for most other things here.
Compared to India, Thailand is Utopia

Re: Very Helpful
Another gem from 'World -Class' Delhi
Before the Commonwealth Games, many central reservations and kerbstones were replaced (For the most part unnecesarily, - so I guess it was another scam). This was combined with a fresh layer of tarmac and some nice new kerb painting in yellow and black and of course new white lines on the roads.
So - on the same theme of how to protect the visually impaired, herewith another gem - often repeated elsewhere.
A user friendly road crossing - great if you have a push chair or are half pissed.............
