Hua Hin - Cha-am tourism drive underway

Post by buksida »

A plan is under way for the combined development of the adjoining areas of Hua Hin and the Cha-am district of Phetchaburi into a tourism destination cluster.

The cluster would allow the development of the two areas to move in sync and encourage greater cooperation among local tourism businesses.

The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Dasta) recently hosted a seminar to brainstorm ideas on sustainable and balanced tourism development on the coast from Phetchaburi to Prachuap Khiri Khan, of which Hua Hin is a district, and nearby areas.

The seminar was attended by about 260 delegates from tourism- and business-related public and private agencies, including local administrative organisations from the two provinces.

Prachuap Khiri Khan deputy governor Apinan Jantarung said Prachuap Khiri Khan still has much more potential to compete in the tourism market as its beaches are linked to the ones in Phetchaburi.

The province wants to transform Hua Hin into a world-class tourism destination with a clean and safe environment for visitors.

To realise the plan, this year it is seeking a much bigger budget from the government to finance the concept, Mr Apinan said.

Mr Taweepong Wichaidit, acting director of Dasta, said the principle of "interdependence" must be used to boost the capabilities of small- and medium-sized tourism businesses in the two provinces.

Cluster-based development and connecting similar businesses in the same area through the use of appropriate knowledge and innovation would help reduce the costs of and add value to local goods and services.

Mr Taweepong said public agencies should also play an important role in improving the quality of the workforce as well as the towns' infrastructure and logistics under the plan.

Are there any beaches between Cha-Am and Phetchaburi? I was given to believe that it was all marshland so that's why nothing has been developed.

There's beach for about twenty kilometers north of Cha Am, with a bit of local development and then after that it's mainly marsh as you say.

Is that where they've got the statues in the sea? If it is, we stopped there for lunch a couple years back. You could see that a lot of money had been spent, but it had been allowed to deteriorate into ruin.
