Bikinis for farang ladies

Post by Don East Stand »

Once again I need the help of you guys and girls! :D

My wife (farang) is looking for bikinis and tells me she cannot find anything suitable for the female farang figure in Hua Hin.

We're having to go to Bangkok for a couple of days, so does anyone know of any specific shops in Bangkok where my wife might be able to buy a nice new bikini?

Cheers

I'll answer first Don as I'm not in Hua Hin and hard for you to find me and beat me up! If she has a bikini body, you'll find them in the large department stores in Bangkok. Paragon, Emporium, Robinson(maybe). If she exceeds around 40" on the top and 38-40" on the bottom, it may be tough, but take a look anyway. With high season approaching this should be the time stores are fully stocked. Pete

Central's closed isn't it? I followed their trail for anther matter recently and got lost in the underground car park. Couldn't get in there for about 45 mins and when I did I was told it would be closed for a little while yet.
Wasn't that the place that was torched by the redshirts?
Anyway, unless things have changed dramatically over the past two weeks, don't go the Central at Chidlom.
Sorry, Nereus, but my visit was a wild goose chase.

I think that you are getting confused between Central Dept Store, and Central World--that was torched. I was in Central Chidlom just yesterday, and it is far from closed. :?

Ah, OK.
As you can tell, I know nothing of shopping in BKK!!! Didn't realise there were two places.

I'm sure one of the Indian or Pakistani tailors in town would be happy to measure your wife and make a custom bikini... :D

All the girls on Koh Tao used to moan about the lack of availability above a size zero.

The major department stores will have franchise shops. Surfer girl and Phuket mermaids (There was one opposite the Hilton and I think in MV) stock ripcurl ,quiksilver etc in Farang sizes. Not cheap though. 2-4k for a sporty one and more for tasteful sunbathing types. You might also have some luck at one of the factory or premium outlets. Underwear is another common gripe of expat ladies. Marks and Sparks can be found in the larger complexes along with Triumph and La Perla in the Emporium. The Thai shops do stock western sizes but usually "apple catchers" as my ex used to call them.

You can get bikinis farang size in Market Village.
You just visit the small stalls in the middle on
the 1.floor. They are also much cheaper than
the brand shops on the sides.
Good luck.

And a fitting room? :naughty:

Seriously though even upstairs in the old HH mall would be worth a try. Certainly Robinsons and the like.
And I'm wondering if Marks and Sparks online ordering for in store collection works for Bangkok? They certainly do overseas deliveries - don't know the cost. In store collection of online orders in the Uk is of course free. Excellent service because you see the whole range of stock online - not the small selection most stores have space for.

I agree w amarita, you can find 'some' farang sized bikinis in the middle stands at MV.
No fitting rooms, but the lady owner will gladly in a loud voice let you know that 'XL no fit, too small for Youuuu' and that an XXL or XXXL is better for you :)....there's nothing like the reality-check you get when you shop for these things in Thailand...

Unfortunately the Phuket Mermaid shops have closed in HH, can be found in Gaysorn Plaza 1st fl, or at the airport in BKK, and I belive in some shops in Pattaya, Samui and Phuket. A bit expensive, but great quality.
