Where i can find aquarium fishes and plants ?

Post by Johan »

Hello,

I'm looking for fishes, plants and other stuff like that for my aquarium. I know two shops in Hua Hin, one in grand market and another one near the railway, if you guys know any other shop in Hua Hin, Cha Am, Pran Buri ou Pak Nam Pran, please tell me. (if possible with a map).

Thanks.

Johan,

Sorry - not providing information, but asking the question.....

Are you fairly knowlegable with aquariums/fishes/plants etc? The reason I ask, is that I would love to have an aquarium of my own here in China. There are numerous local shops for EVERYTHING...... but how to put all together..

Rather than ruin your thread, could you please PM me with any info?

I'm not an expert, i readed on internet how do to and i also asked the vendor in Hua Hin.

The bigger the aquarium the easier to take care of. Try to wait for 3 weeks before put any fish on your aquarium, it's difficult to wait but the azote cycle* could be dangerous for your new aquarium. (if you don't understand my words it's because i'm maybe explaining it with non-english words, sorry).

The best two in HH is the one along the railway road and the stalls at the Grand Market on Thursdays.

There is a complete tropical fish market up past Ratchaburi for the real enthusiast, fish and equipment prices are a fraction of the cost of identical stuff in Hua Hin: http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/vi ... =7&t=14435

pharvey, I've been keeping aquariums in HH for 6-8 years now so ask away if you have any specific questions.

The place Buksi mentioned is the best but it's difficult to find if you don't know Petchaburi. Besides the one by the railroad and the grand market there is also an aquarium place in the parking garage of Market Village Mall. It's in the glass enclosed stairwell that goes up to the mall from the garage on the garage level near the first parking entrance.

There is no phone number, it is not a shop - it is a market with hundreds of tropical fish stalls.

Follow the map in the thread I linked to above.

Nice tank, looks about 100 gallon, should be able to have a nice community in there or a couple of large Oscars or Flowerhorns.

Hi Buksida,

I'm very much a beginner, but have wanted an aquarium for many years - work/travel basically never allowed for it. My travel has certainly reduced these days, and with being married, the house is only likely to ever be empty for 2-3 weeks at a max... even then we could count on Mother in law etc. to drop in now and again.... Basically, what I want is something that can be left for 2-3 weeks, auto feeder, auto everything basically.... a) is this possible? b) if so, are there specific fish that I would have to avoid - species that need daily care for example..?

Certainly not wanting to get ahead of myself, so any advice would be much appreciated - I get differing opinions on the net/through books... and certainly through the local guys here who are obviously just after a quick sale to round eye.

Cheers,

Pete

You can buy a machine to give them food everyday and forget about your fishes for long time. But it's recommended to change x% of the water every x days, i don't know how often myself, any advice welcome.

Sorry, I looked back and Buksi was talking about Ratchaburi. There is a similar place (that I mentioned) in downtown Petchaburi where we bought most of the goldfish and Koi for our pond (they have all kinds of tropical fish). It's like Buksi mentioned in Ratchaburi, but not as big. It's probably 6 to 8 shops co-located.

A general rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon of water so if you have a 50 gal tank you can have 50 small 1" fish, 25x2" fish, 5x10" fish etc etc. Overstocking is a common mistake beginners make, it usually results in the fish all dying due to high nitrates in dirty water.

If you intend to leave the tank I would go for smaller fish such as tetras, barbs, bala sharks, and danios. Larger ones are more demanding.

Water changes are essential, ideally you should change 50% of the water once a week, more if it is a heavily stocked aquarium. If you intend to leave the tank for a while don't get as many fish, this will help maintain water quality.

Have a look at the nitrogen cycles as well, there is plenty of info online.
