Traditional Thai Wedding

Post by canthai »

My wife (Thai) and I have been married now for over 24 years. We never had a formal wedding. I thought it would be nice to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in Hua Hin by having a traditional Thai wedding ceremony to share with our family and friends. My question here is: Does anyone here know who offers a complete package of ideally a beachfront location, chairs for about 20 guests, flowers, monks, music, cake ETC. All suggestions are welcome and approx costs would be appreciated. PS We own a home in Hua Hin. Thanks

Congratulations! What a nice thought - from what I've seen of Thai weddings the 'traditional' way does seem to be with awning and monks outside of your home. But for a more upmarket beach front catered occassion why not try the Sofitel?
I guess with prices there the sky's the limit - no idea really. For a 'home' wedding your wife should have all the contacts needed and it would be more reasonably priced. Or hire one of the beach front restaurants for the event.
One thing to bear in mind is that traditionally the actual ceremony is officiated by the monks very early morning.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Canthai,

I think margaretcarnes is on to something there, get creative! Dont be restricted by the norm, play with some ideas, just check that no one will be insulted! Its your party!!!

A family member was married at the Sofitel in January and it cost around 600k for everything...they give you a complimentary night too. I am not 100% on the details, but there are plenty of options there including fireworks with your names. As far as I know, the Dusit is supposed to be even better, but they are picky and have heard of foreigner and Thai weddings being rejected...

For the reception I think you are looking at around 2000 baht per head, which is very expensive.

I was at another wedding which was 2000 bath a table (8-10 per table), and really good food...lots of courses, lost count!

It is really hit and miss with the cheaper catering. I have had the worst food poisoning in my life from a wedding but also had some of the best food in my life!

IMHO, if you got reliable local Thai family, get them to sus it out for you, otherwise, I'd be comparing the hotels, sorry if thats stating the obvious.

He Canthai,

How did the wedding go ?

I'm coming to HH in april to have a traditional Thai wedding, my wife (for 15 years) has been asking this for years, and I've run out of excuses.

Did you find a good place and planner ? W're staying at the Hyatt, but I'm looking for a traditional wedding with much folklore.

Firework would be fantastic but always seems to be a ripof....Greetings from a very cold Belgium !
