Used Vehicle Purchases

Post by Stu-Pot »

Anyone out there bought a used vehicle from a dealer in HH/Cha-Am??
What are they like to deal with???

Crooks like everywhere else or worse?????

Is it possible to buy a decent used 4WD in this country????

Pretty much sums up local dealers, you're better off in Bangkok.

Used cars in Thailand are very expensive anyway, try this site for a rough price guide:

(All in Thai though).

We have a little Suzuki jeep whcih we bought in BKK
It's got a lot of play on the steering & the lights at the back need sorting out as there is a bit of a disco going on there, but it's very reliable & in good condition otherwise.

I have never bought a second hand car (or pre-owned as the Americans like to say!) in HH or Cha Am but i did buy one in Bangkok. It was a complete nightmare and wasn't significantly cheaper than buying new but at the time it seemed to be the best I could get. Whether I was conned by the dealer or just unlucky I don't know, but I would recommend anyone who is going to buy second hand to stick to the brands that are widely available, such as Toyota, as parts and repairs are much cheaper and quicker. My one was a Kia Sportage and the nearest place to HH to get certain things fixed was near Ratchaburi! I eventually part exchanged it, once the last repair was done and it was running again, for a new Toyota pickup, In the less than 2 years I had it, it broke down about 6 times, the worst one being on my way back from Ko Chang just outside Trat, while taking a friend back to Bangkok to catch his flight home! If you can afford it, I'd advise buying new...

Sounds a bit dodgy for me on Thai roads.
Take care!
