Wedding gifts customs?

Post by HuaHinR »

My wife and I are invited to a party at a restaurant to celebrate the marriage of local friends. Would bringing a gift to the gettogether be customary and polite?

I've been to a few Thai weddings and the done thing is to give a donation of money in an envelope, the amount depending on how wealthy you are and how well you know the couple getting married.

I have been to weddings where farang couples have brought gifts and they seemed to have been well received, but the money in the envelope is the normal practice here.
