Nothing but good news on the Thai political front lately...
A red-shirt leader warned Thursday certain red-shirt people may turn suicide bombers to avenge the government crackdowns and fight for democracy.
The warning was made by Somyos Prueksakasemsuk, a leader of the June 24 Group, during a seminar at the Royal Hotel to mark the October 14 student uprising. The seminar was titled "October 14: People's War".
Somyos said a lot of red-shirt people harboured grudge against the government following the crackdown at the Rajprasong rally.
"I heard that the red-shirt people hate the government so much that they will sacrifice their life for democracy," Somyos said.
"Don't underestimate that the red shirt will not dare to do it as Nuamthong Praiwan used to set an example for them."
Nuamthong was a taxi driver who slammed his taxi against a tank following the September 19 2006 coup. He later hang himself in protest.
Somyos said the explosions of bombs made of fertilisers were carried out by the red-shirt people who were angry at the government.
He said the red-shirt leaders could not control these angry reds as they decided to take revenge on their own.

Personally I don't think they have the stomach or mentality for it. They're not following blind ideology as those in the ME. However, you could get the oddball who does it if he's paid enough and his family is taken care of for life. He would for sure drink a bottle though before the act, and then possibly screw it up. I tend to agree - it only takes one fanatic..... and I guess there are a few amongst the Red Shirts (and Yellow Shirts for that matter). It really would be sad to see this all kick off again as it did late last year.... or worse.

ideology need not be religious Prscct....the Tamil Tigers were conducting suicide bombings long before the Islamic madmen were. I have doubts here as Buddhism teaches that suicide is a big no no...but still. All it takes is one loon, and the reds are ALL loons.
Back in the UK this bloke would now be in a cell for incitement. Its time to stamp the red menace out good and proper. They are a terrorist organisation and should be treated as such

To be honest, if it wasn't for a certain Buriram politition keeping much of Issan in check, the government would have a whole lot more problems than it has now and indeed, probably wouldn't have survived this long.
At least half of the traditional red followers have been standing on the sidelines so far.
I don't know what the deal is with the Buriram folks, but my wife (I assume you get your information from your Thai family) and her family from Loei province are sick of this embarrassing violence. She and her family are intelligent enough to realize that it hurts all of the people of Thailand.

And the status quo hurts most of the people of Thailand. The Govt. are completely and utterly incompetent. Forget the odd bomb blast - they should do something, anything, that reaches out to the many disconteted and disadvantaged who are still there. They can't hold an election as they know they will lose. Its been said many times on here that Thailand doesn't have a democracy and thats never been truer with the current puppet regime.
